Ode to Beatle City

?Yesterday?, all my troubles seemed so far away. I had held the hope that commonsense would prevail, but I guess ?I Should Have Known Better?. EFC did their homework and the lure of ?A Taste of Honey? proved too enticing for many. It turned into ?A Hard Day?s Night? for me, and I?m sure many other Blues around the globe (I won?t be so bold as to claim ?Across the Universe!?).

Totally dismayed, I got on the phone to ?Doctor Robert? and screamed ?Help!? I?m Down? I mean, I?m really down!? He pointed me in the direction of a self-help group; ?Sgt Pepper?s Lonely Hearts Club Band?. Naturally, I declined. I don?t consider myself the ?Fool on the Hill? just yet. In fact, wasn?t it the ?Fool on the Hill? and ?Mean Mr Mustard? who got us into this mess in the first place?

At times during this ?Long, Long, Long? ground-move debate it has felt like a ?Revolution? in progress with a clear divide amongst fans and acerbity a-plenty. Latterly, some have opined that ?It?s All Too Much?, or ?I?m so Tired? of this debate. They have duly been castigated for dismissing such a momentous turning point in the club?s history. Now that the vote is cast the outcome is something of an anti-climax, and the ?ground certainly didn?t move? for me. That said, I?m not one of those ?you say Hello, and I say Goodbye? types, whether for effect or for real. I?ve always followed the Blues ?Eight Days a Week? and will continue to do so. I?d be a ?Day Tripper?. I?d get a ?Ticket to Ride? or ?Drive My Car? up the ?Long and Winding Road? to Kirkby and ?Twist and Shout? at the ?Strawberry Fields, Forever? if I had to.

It would appear that the main reason for voting ?yes? to Kirkby was ?Money?. Of course, ?that?s what l want? for the club, as does everyone, whether you believe this can best be achieved in Kirkby or elsewhere. Nevertheless, it may ?pay? the club officials to remind themselves that money ?Can?t Buy Me Love?. There?s no guarantee that ?Rocky Raccoon? will follow the Blues even if Rocky Balfour does. Whilst there is promise of ?Wild Honey Pie? and ?Savoy Truffle?, I?m struggling to see anything other than a ?Glass Onion? in a field surrounded by ?Piggies?.

Furthermore, many see the move as ?Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite?. Indeed, when queried over the lack of transparency with regard to funding the Stadium, KW intimated that ?Everybody?s Got Something to Hide Except for Me and my Monkey?. Speaking of which, we are all aware of ?The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill?.

There are those, myself included, who said hang on a minute ?You Can?t Do That?, there is an alternative. ?There?s a Place? known as the Loop. ?Why Don?t We Do It In The Road?? Alas, it seems that the powers that be are too concerned with their own agenda. Moreover, many supporters are opposed to remaining in the Capital of Culture in preference of a rural retreat. All this, in face of the likelihood that once we?re out, we won?t ?Get Back?. In relation to this, one of my, and others?, greatest fears has been the perceivable damage to our identity. I worry that our future supporters will feel like a ?Nowhere Man? and that this will lead to fan-base erosion. I want us to still be in the top echelons of the league ?When I?m Sixty-Four?.

So, as we lay down our arms there are now calls for us Evertonians to ?Come Together?. There are suggestions that ?We Can Work It Out? and that it?s over, so just ?Let It Be?. Perhaps this sense of decorum can be achieved ?With a Little Help from My Friends? or the afore-mentioned ?Doctor Robert?. Without a doubt, sometime in the future I want to be able to say that it?s ?Getting Better? and ?I Feel Fine?. Ultimately, I agree, that this is what needs to happen, but until then I guess I?ll be left ?Fixing a Hole?.

I only hope Everton do it on the pitch today and bring some cheer. So come on you Blue Boys?'Don?t Let Me Down!'

?Anyway, gotta go, there?s an octopus in me garden!?
