All We Want For Christmas.....

Now that the January transfer window is nearly upon us, we all like to speculate whose signature we will be chasing and how much we have to spend. We probably don't take into account all the factors which may influence a player's final decision, so we may want to place ourselves in their golden boots before we sign on the dotted line.

Let's start with the obvious: money. Every time I hear of one of our players being called up for the England squad, I imagine the likes of Terry, Lampard and Stevie G Laa, all asking Joleon Lescott how much a week he is on at Everton, then tapping him up, telling him he can double his wages at one of the four money clubs. You will never stop a player thinking "I have only got five good years left, so I am going to make the most money I can." This is true in all walks of life so we are probably being hypocritical to call them mercenaries. Ninety per cent of us would leave our jobs for a double your money package.

Then we have agents who stand to make a substantial amount out of any transfer of a top player, Rooney being a prime example. It is common knowledge Anelka's brothers have become rich men by touting him to every club who will listen to them over the past few years. These greedy bastards make me sick and Manny Fernandes has found this out to his cost. Those players who choose to sign for the likes of Chelsea, knowing they will be left to rot in the reserves, are the worst type of professional. It is one thing to leave a club for better pay, but to leave to not even be considered for the first team is scandalous. Their careers are short enough, and any player will tell you they want to play in every game. The likes of Sidwell who left Reading deserve nothing in the way of sympathy.

We now come to the scourge of modern football " THE WAG". l have lived in Liverpool all my life and travel around a lot with work. You would not believe how many people still say the old Harry Enfield catchphrase "calm down, calm down." Their perception of Liverpool is still stuck firmly in the Eighties. You can only guess what London-based players and their wives are saying about all the Liverpool players' homes being ransacked while away playing for their club. I doubt many of the WAG generation would be keen on moving to Liverpool at this present moment... Maybe it is because I live here that all crime in the city seems to to magnified 100 times worse than it actually is by the national media; most major cities now have a much worse crime rate than Liverpool, London coming top on most crime statistics.

So next time we all write our Christmas wish list, we can only hope to sign the likes of Mikky A, Timmy Cahill, Lee Carsley, Phil Neville. Top professionals who seem to love our club more than money or bright lights.

Merry Christmas to all blues and a Happy New Year.

The tabloids now are having a field day with transfer speculation with Arteta linked to Valencia.
Today I have found the following in papers or on websites linked to us.
David Abelda Valencia
Efrain Juarez a Mexican 19yo centre back with Barcelona
Stephen Hunt of Reading the Mirror says we have bid 3m for.

Telegraph says Norwegian striker Thorstein Helstad.
Tribal Football says Deportivo La Coruna striker Riki
Sportingo says Justin Hoyte of Arsenal
Sky Sports Chris Gunter the Cardiff and Wales right back age 19

I think the next 10 days are going to be fun and games as we are linked to every Tom Dick and Juan playing football

I always hate the transfer windows nearing, when the papers get the old two bowler hats out put one pile of players in one and the names of teams in another and then pick two at random and print a ridiculous rumour.

Then you have the FM2007 bods who post the most ridiculous threads about "cheeky bids" etc

Victor Anichebe = Joe Cole exchange.

Did I dream this or did it really appear somewhere a few days back?

But on the Tomas, Ricardo o Arrabieta front - Mikel is now well known in Spain (I’ve said this before, their fans, media and clubs know much more about us than we know about them) and good Spanish clubs will make enquiries.

But it does work the orher way too - Arteta + a successful Euro profile this season will make make it much easier for Moyes to get someone he wants to join us.
