The Future is Bright, the Future is Blue!

I am a regular reader of this site and for once I decided it was time to make a simple point: has everyone who comes on here slagging off the team and manager forgot how bad things where when he took over the job?

6 years later and we are starting to compete on a regular basis with the top half of the table as opposed to years struggling to fight off relegation!

If anyone would have told me that we would have been in this situation 6 years on from Moyes first match I would have been over the moon with joy and to be perfectly honest, I am!

That said there is always room for improvement in any club, even at Man Utd, Arsenal & Chelsea, the so called top three!

By me reckoning a UEFA cup finish two seasons on the trot is nothing to be sniffed at and that is a pessimistic view as I still feel that the Champions League spot is not totally beyond our grasp!

Lets look at some of the more positives:

An excellent keeper in Howard

A solid defence of Lescott, Yobo, Jagielka and yes a new right back would not go a miss but Hibbert is a blue and not the worst in the Premiership!

Midfield containing Arteta (could make any squad), Cahill, Pienaar and Osman is not the worst in the world. A couple of additions in the summer including a midfield general included and what more would you want?

As for the front line, the Yak and Johnson are hardly dummies! Lets not forget two of the most promising youngsters in the Premiership in Vaughan and Anichebe

Given the team Moyes took over from I think the above squad is not far short of a miracle. A few more pounds invested in a right back and a couple of midfielders and we wont be to far away! The only player and a consistent performer that is playing from 6 years ago is Carsley and a fine job he has done given that he is no Gerrard, Ronaldo or Lampard!

In summary, get off the team's back and look at what has been achieved, albeit without any trophies! In my humble opinion (given our budget) I think we are moving in the right direction, Rome as they say was not built in a day!

Fighting with the big boys, consistently better performances, regular European placements, new stadium proposals, cup semi-finals, etc etc etc! I can remember when it was great in the 80s to be a blue but I also remember when it was tough to be a blue. At the minute I am chuffed to be a blue!
