The Spanish club claim that the Swiss player is not available on a free transfer and are apparently now insisting on a fee for his services. Everton were reportedly under the impression that he was surplus to requirements and had been released.
Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera says that Vogel can only depart on his club's terms terms:
"He is transferable and there are options for him to go to another club," he said.
"We have requests for him, everyone would like to loan him - but we want to sell."
Meanwhile, credible reports in the Echo and Mirror suggest Steven Pienaar could follow Vogel on loan with a view to a permanent £2m move next year.
There has not, however, been any announcement from Everton that the former Ajax man is in discussions with the club, although Assistant Manager, Alan Irvine, commented that he didn't know "where we are with them," perhaps hinting that both players are in talks. Pienaar's representative refused to comment on the speculation when asked by Sky Sports earlier this week.
