Who do we miss most???

By Dave Cooper :  01/03/2010 :  Comments (7) :

That old saying “You never know how good something was until you can’t have it” or “how good someone was until they are gone” etc…has been rattling around my head for a long while in relation to which Blues are missed most when they are injured and we have had plenty of them being injured……..Well who do you think we have missed most? In no particular order………and only looking at the positive things we miss!!!!

Cahill……….we miss his

  1. Endless energy and enthusiasm
  2. His ability to create mayhem in the box and score important goals
  3. His defensive heading ability
  4. His desire to “defend from the front”
  5. His ability to provide a link between midfield and Saha

Saha……we miss his…

  1. When 100% fit and in the mood……..outstanding ability to score quality goals
  2. When 100% fit and in the mood ….to lead the line, hold the ball up and bring others into play

Fellaini …we miss his

  1. Height in both boxes and winning headers in front of the back four
  2. Ability to break things up in midfield and start attacks
  3. His ability to put his foot in when required

Jagielka ….we miss his/have missed his

  1. Passion, courage and leadership at the back
  2. His outstanding ability to make last ditch blocks and tackles
  3. His ability to make a nuisance of himself in the opposing box
  4. His infectious, no nonsense, total commitment to the Blues

Arteta …. we miss his/have missed his

  1. Spark of genius
  2. When playing his best football before he got injured, his new found desire to tackle back, harry and generally “boss the midfield”
  3. His occasional ability to score outstanding free kicks
  4. His ability to bring the best out of Pienaar and Osman

Yakubu…. we miss his/have missed his

  1. Ability to regularly score goals

Anichebe…. we miss his/have missed his

  1.  …..ability to be a super sub

Heitinga….When unavailable we have missed his

  1. Leadership at the back
  2. Ability to pass the ball from the back
  3. Football brain

Yobo …. we miss his/have missed his

  1. Atheticism and physicality

Of all of those I believe that we have missed Jagielka and Arteta the most. I’m not sure that Fellaini isn’t becoming a very important player for us too and perhaps the reason we lie down when sides dominate us a bit. I’m not sure though that it’s only the players who have been out who are the problem as much as those we could have played and didn’t like Coleman, Gosling, Duffy when we were short of CB’s. Perhaps the tactics that were missing at times? Sorry, another thread.
I’m not too sure about TC.

I think at present we are missing Fellaini. For instance, look at Sunday — there’s no way Spurs’ midfield would have had all that space, not to mention create the 2nd goal in the manner they did.

I am proper gutted as he was on fire, but hopefully he’ll come back even better.

We’ve missed Jags and Lescott at the back and just conceded too many goals. Hopefully we can go back next season to being solid.

Very good Ajay! I think we always miss Cahill, even when he is not scoring goals he is confusing defenders and generally setting the tone all up the pitch. And I answer in regard of present missing players (and obviously our Belgian genius runs him close).

Oh yes and Peter we do miss Lescott and I agree with Moyes that ’I thought him a good lad’ and ’Everton are a team going somewhere’; he would be a starting centre back with England and Everton would be there abouts if he had stayed, in my view .

Definitely Fellaini. I think his injury has cost us 4th spot. He was bossing the pitch in his last 4 or 5 games. We miss him like Chelsea miss Essien.
