Little Bobby and Big Ian

 11 Comments: First  |  Last

I see our very own mouthpiece Robert Elstone was in a love-in with Ian Ayres yesterday. I admit I was not actually there, however, from what I have heard and read, it appears yet again we were put in our place as the little brother listening to what our big brother had to say.

Obviously our Bobby hasn't taken onboard the outcome of the DK inquiry as it seems he's still of the opinion that getting into bed with some huge retailer on land ? who knows where ? is the way to go. Goodison apparently, and contrary to many studies, is totally unsuitable for redevelopment.

Ayres talked about our neighbours expanding, more than at present, into the Asian market. Bobby reckons we're getting involved with some Chinese deal, probably selling our naming rights to some takeaway in Shanghai....

It might be adviseable to EFC not to share the same platform with those from the Dark Side cos, regardless what it's about, we always seem to come off severely chastened and second best.

Will we ever be regarded, or allow ourselves to be treated as equals???

Not with the board we've got. In 2003 it was KD underpinned by EU Objective 1 funding. In 2008 it was DK underpinned by KMBC and Tesco and fictitious subsidies.

If there's coat tails, we'll ride on them. Otherwise we're static.

I still think it's down to their name... people recognize Liverpool, no one knows what Everton is... and now minus a collapse of them or a Man City make over for us... it's going to be that way a very long time

Maybe we should change the club crest on the shirts to something that represents the city we are from.Would anyone mind if we had a Blue Liver bird on the shirt rather than that tower thing which know one apart from Evetonians has a clue about.Change the nickname as well the Toffees is very lame. The nickname as well as the badge should signify who we are and were we are from.

The Tower and the Toffees nickname are as much use advertisng the club as Bill Kenwright is..Move with the times I say change never harmed anyone .

Not while our main song includes a line about them.

I'd venture that more people know what a toffee is than a liver bird, at least outside Liverpool.

Regardless, fuck no. The nickname and the badge *do* signify where we're from, our history and our heritage. One of the most special things about the club is how we (as fans) truly value that heritage.

I remember this mascot walking around Goodison a few years ago - maybe we could have him on the badge?

Kids would love him!

(nb: and it would be particularly apt with a Chairman, board and a manager who don't have any, yet are constantly dropping them).

As someone who over the last 25 years has travelled virtually everywhere (N & S America, West & East Europe, Indian Sub, Asia, Austraila), I'm afraid to say that 80-90% of people I've met know about Liverpool as a city (Beatles, LFC) but actually dont know about Everton at all (except the truly mad football fans) - fact of life we have to live with it.

Tony, I believe the Liver Bird was on our badge up until 1930s.
