David Prentice claims in the Echo that Everton have launched an internal investigation into a series of e.mails that appeared last night on one of our discussion threads, posted by a reader registered under the name "Ethan Dyer". The authenticity and legality of the e.mails was questioned and they were subsequently removed.

The emails, some purporting to be from Everton's Director of Communications, Ian Ross, were highly critical of CEO Robert Elstone's leadership and described working at Goodison Park as like ?working in a kindergarten.?

Other matters discussed include Everton's PR strategy surrounding the protest march by the Blue Union fans' group in September, a growing air of ?paranoia? inside the football club and talk of ?financial meltdown? at the club.

Other emails published last night contain correspondence between Will Hanrahan, a Bootle-born former broadcast journalist, and Ross.

At this stage, it is not known whether the e.mails are authentic; however, the Echo has learned today an immediate probe into how they appear to have been received by parties outside of the club, has been launched.

Club officials have not commented but a series of urgent meetings are now underway discussing the issue.
