Everton 1 - 1 Norwich City
It was the usual start from Everton, lots of huff and puff, corners a plenty but no real chances, and the impetus faded into a dreadful midfield stalemate until just before the half hour when Norwich, in almost their first attack, conjoured up a laughable goal that summed up the entire proceedings. Holt somehow able to turn under lots of defensive pressure and screw his shot across the goal and in off the post. The football was in the main, shockingly bad, Everton showing all their recognized flaws as a dreadful half came to a close.

More utter dross for another 30 mins in which Holt came oh so close to scoring a second that would have killed Everton before the requisite Moyes substitution, bang on the hour: Stracqualursi on for the perennially useless Cahill. At least it gave Everton and the crowd a lift as they produced some pressing football but all to no avail.

A half-chance for Saha from a good Baines cross was powered over as the second change was made: Drenthe on for Gueye with barely 20 mins left. Nothing seemed to be happening as the game seemed to be going nowhere until a good driving run abnd shot from Drenthe was turned in very cleverly by a lovely little clip from Leon Osman to divert it between John Ruddy and the post. An Everton goal... Hallelujah!

Conor McAleny got a couple more minutes at the end as Everton searched in vain for the winner, Stracq wanting too long and McAleny screwing a chance wide, then trying a very ambitions first-time volley, and a clip from a Baines cross that was blocked out to Drenthe, who wildly lashed it high and wide. A lively finish to a quite dreadful exhibition of so-called Premier League football.

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Heitinga, Jagielka, Baines, Osman, Fellaini, Neville, Gueye (72' Drenthe), Cahill (61' Stracqualursi), Saha.
Subs: Mucha, Bilyaletdinov, Distin, Rodwell, McAleny.
