Moyes acknowledges dwindling crowds

David Moyes cites the lack of entertainment from his team this season as the reason for the slipping attendance levels at Goodison Park this season.

The Everton manager admits that the paucity of home victories has done nothing to entice fans back to the Blues' home games.

"I am a football supporter, first and foremost," Moyes is quoted in the Daily Mail. "I know how it works. If I am winning games, supporters will turn up. I, as manager of Everton, have not won enough games this season for them to come.

"I have not entertained them enough. We have not scored enough goals. I need to do that to get the supporters to fill Goodison."

Of course, while there has been plenty of criticism aimed at Moyes for his lack of adventure and rigid loyalty to certain players and formations, many Evertonians would argue that it's the loss of flair players, the dearth of hope for the club's immediate future in general, plus perhaps broader disillusionment with the unbalanced state of the domestic game in general, that lies behind the falling home crowds.

The home game against Norwich last month saw the lowest gate at Goodison Park for nine years and the average home attendance for the 2011-12 so far is nearly 3,000 off from last season.
