Jagielka faces fight for team place

Phil Jagielka is expecting a battle to get his place back in the Everton side after he made a successful return from a knee problem during the reserves clash against Liverpool in midweek due to the form of his team-mates.

Jagielka is now pushing for a return to the side for this weekend's clash with Tottenham, but the former Sheffield United man concedes his path to the starting XI could be blocked by the impressive form of Johnny Heitinga and Sylvain Distin.

"It was good to get the 90 minutes under my belt," said Jagielka.

"I have been training since last week and now I've had this so hopefully I will be challenging to be in the squad at the weekend.

"We have got a lot of games coming up so it's important to have as many people fit as possible.

"Johnny and Sylvain have been playing well and if I have to sit on the bench for a month because we are winning then so be it."
