Moyes linked with Burnley striker

03/05/2012 | Comments (15)
David Moyes is being linked with a summer move for Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez but he faces a fight to land him.

Both Fulham and newly promoted Southampton are being linked with a move for the England under-21-striker and their interest has pushed up the asking price to around the £8m mark. That could put Everton off as Moyes will again face financial restrictions over the summer and may have to sell before he can add to his side.

I still think Dempsey would be a better acquisition even though he is much older; for one, the price would be a lot less. For what they need, and on performance since his return, Pienaar is a must, plus a right winger and support for Jelavic.

Who will they sell? No money will be available, thanks Bill, so any player in the £15M range that wouldn't be too much of a loss?!

I would've fancied this move last season when he'd have been around the £1-2m mark, but he's massively over-rated by Burnley fans IMO. A decent bottom half of the table striker but not really one to take us forward (not for £8m anyway - the lad only has a year left on his contract.).

£8 million is ridiculous! Not worth half that. I would go for someone from the continent ? English does not mean best so try the German, Dutch, Belgian or French leagues where the prices seem to be fairer.

My preferred choice would be to bring in Jelle Vossen from Genk, make sure we get Pienaar, and try to land Dempsey. It all depends on what cash is available though!

£8m? There's got to be other good options for less than that... With Vellios, Anichebe, Baxter and Gueye already here, i'd question if we need to sign another forward when only one plays at a time... Hallam Hope or Anton Forrester could be ready to step up next year as well

i'd let him go to Southampton then. Might come back to bite me, but Shane Long at the same money has not set the world alight has he?

I seen this lad a couple of times last year and thought he would be worth a punt giving his age, this season he has scored a lot of goals so has convinced me more he would be a decent signing.£8m is a load of shite,I expect he will leave for less than half of that.

I think we should be looking at a higher standard personally.

Some top Croatian signings would be good. Jelly and modric don't look bad (I'll park bilic).

No chance in hell Moyes would pay 8m for a championship youngster!!

I expect Pienaar and maybe one loan/ freebie or youngster this summer and thats it. Unless we get and accept a big offer for a first teamer.

We will not get Dempsey. He is getting old, will cost at least 8-9million, we will have alot of competition for him, and he wants champs league football. Also, 8million for Rodriguez is madness.

Junior Hoillet at Blackburn is on a Bosman at the end of the season (according to the Mirror!)

He wouldn't be a bad addition. Don't think he would get a great deal of game time at the other top clubs.
Don't know much about the Burnley lad but 8mill is a bit risky. His current manager is a blue though so if he's crap he might tell him not to bother with Everton. If he's any good then the reverse!

We need Pienaar and in the unlikely scenario that we have enough money for another signing them it needs to be a pacey right winger.

I haven't seen Rodriguez, but we have a top goal scorer in Jelavic, a good youngster in Vellios, a limited but reasonable striker in Anichebe and an untested Silva.

I really like Dempsey but we have Fellaini and Gibson who form a good partnership, with Rodwell pushing them. We then have Cahill, Osman and Barkley who can play between midfield and attack.

We simply can't afford to buy any other position when we are weighing up whether to start Coleman (never a right midfielder) or Osman (a creative centre mid who is ineffective out wide due to his lack of pace) on the right wing.

Regular championship football watchers aren't so convinced by Rodriguez, and certainly not for £8mil with a year left! Moyes does seem to have a habit of constantly overlooking the right wing position, or the left for that matter (I think we got lucky with Pienaar being so effective there). Was Kilbane our last out and out winger??
