And this is the fabulous academy we are hoping will churn out our next crop of stars? Our under 21s and under 18s aren't exactly starting very well.

Yeah. Not a great sign that the likes of Barkley, Duffy, vellios, garbutt etc are ready to play for the first team. Sounds like quite a strong team to me but perhaps they are not quite so talented as we/they think they are!

Is that George Green playing... wow that is a few years ahead .. good for him... saying that not much of a confidence boost for the lad.

This is a chunk of the team that won the u18s 2 years back.... and so many of our high hopers that this maybe shows why Moyes isn't playing them yet... Not great!

If we don't see a turnaround I expect to see some changes in the staffing personnel.

I said before the league commenced it will give us a great idea of how we bench against the others now... let's hope they turn it around!

Wouldn't read too much into it, could be poor tactics or keeper had an off day. Anyone see the game able to comment?

It looks like a strong team of highly rated youngsters. I'm surprised they are getting thumped.

I don't know the opposition line ups. You can have 3 players over 21. Are the opposition mixing some more experienced personal into their squads which is giving them the advantage?

Apparently every shot they had went in. I know 5-1 doesn't lie...but maybe it flattered them a little.

This is not good at all. Alan Stubbs has mentioned previously also that they need to pull up their socks. Not sure what the problem is - it cannot be good for the confidence of people like Barkley, Duffy, Junior, Garbutt, etc on whom we have high hopes.

Got to mention that Rodwell looked classy in his 30 minutes appearance for Man City against the RS yesterday (and expectedly was boo-ed by the Anfield crowd every time he took a touch). I have a feeling that Mancini rates him highly and if he develops a good tackle in him might prefer him over De Jong.

Team looks fairly strong as well, I suppose Stubbsy is no Colin Harvey when it comes managing our youngsters.

That is what is worrying me Andy... Stubbs wasnt exactly the most technical of players... is he the right one to be imparting technical and tactical lessons to the youngsters...

Anyway... I don't want to be hard on the guy if I have it all wrong.

BTW Ajay picked up on a thread elsewhere a City fan made a passing comment how awesome Rodwell looks... hope he does fulfill his potential... which I'm sure with a decent run without injuries could have happened here.

OS makes it sound like we were caught napping and 3 nil down after 15 minutes. After that it was a lottery with us trying to get back into the game and them hitting us twice more on the break.

Seems like we came more into it in second half, but also that this team is very susceptible to counter-attacks. No real information on how well / poorly anyone played, or who controlled the game.

Lesson clearly is to be switched on from first whistle.

Arsenal next up, should be a doddle ;)

I watched Rodwell yesterday and he did nothing that he didn't do for us. Same old sideways or backward passing and looking terrified of the ball.

Awesome, my arse.

Talking to TB, he was not happy with the all round performance, very slow start, and it cost them, could never get back into the game...

Forget it as a performance, more concentration required.

I hope it is just a fitness thing, early in the season and all. Plus the youngsters have hardly had any pre-season games at all.

It will be time to judge after 5 games or so. Then the players will have most of their fitness back and then we will see the real truth.

As I can remember our U-18 side have always started slow. Some new players come in and players that have left. It will be a teaching curve for the players to be able to do the job without Baxter and Wallace who have been a big part of the U-18 side.
