Heitinga hopes Everton can bounce back

John Heitinga hopes Everton can bounce back from cup disappointment at Leeds. He believes Everton supporters deserve better after Tuesday's disappointing Capital One Cup exit at Leeds.

Heitinga was captain for the night on his 100th start for the club and the defender sympathises with the frustrated supporters.

"We need to bounce back, especially for the fans," said the 28-year-old Holland international.

"We came with 5,000 Evertonians, which was great. The support of them was really great. It was because of us that we lost, not them.

"The next round when you see Leeds playing it will still be hard that we're not continuing in the cup, but that's football.

"You need to focus on the next couple of games and we need to bounce back now. Not only for ourselves, for the fans.

"The confidence is still in the team because we've played really good football the last couple of months, we're near the top of the league and we want to stay there.

"We saw it as a way we could win silverware and it's the shortest way to a trophy.

"We are out of the competition now and we need to focus on the league instead. There is not much time to think about this game because the next game is in a few days."

How fucking ironic that JH trots out the "let's be upbeat fellas" line, onwards and upwards, chests puffed out. How fucking ironic after his pathetic display yesterday. His Passing? His reading? This like the leas singer of the Rubettes going public the day after Sugar baby Love was released and saying like "let's be upbeat fellas, onwards and upwards, we'll do it better next time, honest guv."

I've combed through the flailing Dutchman's words a few times and I can't see this:

"Yep, I did not play well and for that I'm sorry, I'm just glad that the gaffer picked Junior to start so that I was only the 2nd worst player in blue last night, well Nais ... "

How dare the arrogant fucker say this: "We came with 5,000 Evertonians, which was great. The support of them was really great. It was because of us that we lost, not them." Let's say that again: "it was because of us that we lost, not them". WTF? Yeah I remember how the fans lost us those 6 games in the 2004-05 season, bunch of bastards... yeah and now I think of it they fucking lost us the shite semi, bunch of bastards... oh and also the Anfied derby last season, bunch of twat shitbag dickhead bastards.

How about this, flailing Dutchman? "Hands up in acknowledgment, I want to make the profoundest and deepest and most genuine of apologies for my pathetic display yesterday. I know that if I brought that same level of performance to most of the jobs of the 5,000 I would have been sacked on the spot. I let you all down, I am so so sorry. You are loyal, honest, and hard-working for the most part. I'm sorry, I didn't live up to those standards, and that pass of mine deep in the 2nd half, gotta lard now eh looking back, gotta lard, fuck me, I put the ball out of play [sides now starting to rock], I put the fucker out [face breaking into grinning] and all I had to do was just stroke it up the pitch in a straight line to Peanuts, I put the fucker out..." [Dutchman now dissolving into helpless body-bashing laughter.]

Last one off the pitch last night Johnny, made sure he gave the supporters their due. He knew how to sweeten us all after the shambles which was more than any of the others did. Shame he wasn't more arsed during the game. Brownie points for appreciating the support though.

I hate footballer rally chat. It's the same from Neville before a derby. Shut up and perform on the pitch.

Maybe he should stop stamping on opposing players... and risking getting the hook.

And to think there's a lot of people calling Leeds 'dirty' on the other threads.

Isn't just so typical when Everton have a great result at Swansea they go and lose to garbage like Leeds. Moyes to blame? Probably.

Will they bounce back as JH says and if so will they get some consistency at a great level. Certainly one would expect a great result against Soton but remember they have been buoyed by their first win and ran both City and Manure close so the Blues cannot afford any complacency.

Why,even with a new formation last night they would be so ineffective is beyond me. Are these players not playing together in practice matches?

Only time will tell if they are the real deal at last but the result at Albion and last night is not boding well.

I hate this shit... "Go on, let's wheel him out, we've gotta bit of making up to do, open yer mouth, skip, this is what yer gonna say, okay, upbeat man, upbeat, onwards an upwards, chin up, and all that — and you gotta good looking chin on ya, skip." just landed in my in-box; phew, I'm so reassured and relieved now.

Neville: We'll Bounce Back

Skipper Phil Neville has warned Southampton they will feel the backlash of the Blues' Capital One Cup exit.

Everton were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition by Leeds United at Elland Road in midweek, and Neville says the players know their performance wasn't good enough. Now he expects a swift response on Saturday when Southampton visit Goodison Park for the first time in seven years.

He said: "It's been an up and down week really. We hit the heights at Swansea with a fantastic performance and it took us up to second in the league and at the Club and the among the supporters there was a real feel-good factor. But Tuesday night we let ourselves down with our performance. We had a changed team but we had enough quality players on the pitch and we just weren't good enough on the night. We need to bounce back from that. You've got to move on in football. It's about how you react to things like that."

I agree with everyone! (It's nice to say that, for a change.) I loved Paul's bewildering Rubettes analogy, although if you asked me what he meant by it I'd have to simply shrug.

All this talk of "moving on" is particularly stupid. I mean, what choice does anyone have? "No, we're just going to stay in the Elland Road dressing room, moping about forever." Is that an option? Or "I suppose we'll turn up against The Saints, but we won't be able to play properly as we'll still be nursing regrets about how bad we were against Leeds." Is that a genuine alternative? I think not. In the immortal words of Samuel Beckett: "I can't go on. I'll go on." Nuff said.

Jeez, in a pub team you have to get over a defeat and try your best to win the next game - and Johnny H & Co are being paid van loads of money! You're damn right you'll bounce back, matey. Get to it.

Ciarán McGlone @376

I was one of the people using the tag "Dirty Leeds" an one of the other threads. Are you going to attempt to
(a) Try to pretend that wasn't Leeds nickname in the 60's-70's?

(b) Try to claim that, historically, we have the same reputation as a team of talented thugs. To wit, Bremner, Hunter, Charlton, Reaney, Clarke, Giles, all led by the odious Revie?

Please......don't be silly.

To be honest I have long had doubts about JH as a defender. Even though last season we seemed to be a lot more solid in the team its difficult to see what he brings apart from perhaps better distribution (which is not to be sniffed at). He is quite slow, not great in the air, seems to be dribbled past quite easily and doesn't seem to have the quite the same determination that Jags has. His positioning maybe good and perhaps this is his big advantage on Distin who too often seems to get cut out by ball over the top.

Not sure what our top CB pairing is but I predict that by the end of the season (if not Jan) there will be calls for a new CB as not sure how solid we are looking there this season.

Every effing sport - media (Sky) driven - it seems requires players to make speeches after a game, or give sensible interviews, win or lose. I wouldn't mind if I never heard another one of them say anything, ever again. The so-called experts are bad enough, the hacks sometimes unbelievably worse.

Is that Sky commentator the only arsehole in football who can't pronounce Heitinga? Sorry, Heitinjer. And his bit of 'in-depth' research to reveal that Oviedo's nickname is 'El Pollo' (according to him, pron as in Apollo) - the Rooster. I don't expect anyone to be able to pronounce Spanish unless they want to or are being paid to do it, but for future reference that should be El Pol-yo, which in any case means a chicken. El Gallo would be rooster, or cock if you prefer.

And now children, to the tune of the Dambuster's March -

'We all hate Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds and Leeds - We hate flippin Leeds'

Ciarán - you're allowed to join in too. It was sung in every ground in the league. And it wasn't simply because they won games.
