Roberto Martinez will be back on ESPN in the US for the Confederations Cup which kicks off in Brazil on Friday.

Martinez was an expert in-studio analyst for ESPN for their coverage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and he will join host Bob Ley and fellow summarisers Alexi Lalas, Steve McManaman, Kasey Keller, Tato Noriega and Rubens Pozzi for this month's tournament which runs until 30th June.

Will the Yanks be able to understand a word McManaman says, because I can't at times.

shouldn't he be working on next season - the shite have signed two players in the last week

This gig might give Roberto a higher profile. might attract players that way. This must be part of his strategy. He's no fool. Might come back with a Brazilian in his suitcase.

He needs to get his backside in his office and make sure we don't loose half the team, not swan off around the world on a jolly. I thought we were paying him to manage EFC not work on the TV. If he leaves it to that shower at goodison we wont have a team left by the time he gets back.

Martinez bagging a Brazilian? Knowing our budget, it will probably be someone from tournament lightweights, Tahiti!

Mind you, their centre forward, Steevy Chong Hue looks useful: 11 goals in 22 appearances. Not bad.

Paul we don't start paying his wages until the 1st July and the window doesn't open until then, added to the fact we don't open our wallets until mid-August, so it's not a problem if he does some TV work, you never know he might attract a buyer.....unlikely....but possible.

Anything that detracts from Mcmanaman is a good thing, loathe that RS git.

We will understand him, after all we understand all you Liverpudlians, other Brits and Scots, mostly!

ESPN is where I 1st notice RM and was very impressed with his commentary.

Albert 325 I agree, raise his profile and that of our beloved Blues.

It would've been all signed sealed months ago, they didn't just ring him up last night and say fancy a bit of moonlighting. He speaks Spanish and English which always goes down well in the US.

It's a chance for him to go out there and run the rule over some of the players he's had his eye on. Moyes did the same at various tournaments over the years. Though he was probably auditioning for the Man U job rather than researching for Everton.

Doesnt he officially not start working for EFC on 1st July? I thought Moyes's contract ran until 30th June.

Also he will be out there scouting players... no-brainer to me.

Adrian,

I don't think he will be swanning off around the world. I think they do the commentary from a studio. Probably in London.

He obviously needs the extra dough, fair play to him.

Players don't report back til 4th July so what's the big deal?

Albert #325 "Might come back with a Brazilian in his suitcase".

Or maybe he'll just come back with a Brazilian. Love to see that on the touchline.

Paul Thistle, FYI Stevie Mac is a die hard Evertonian!! He no longer has to hide his love for the club and is quite open about it nowadays.
Also, it's great IMO that Roberto is out there and can see close up some possible transfer targets. I've always said his knowledge, and contact, in S. America will be good for us.

Different song being sung for Martinez than Moyes. He was slated for doing the Euros

As long as he isn't appearing on MotD hours after a game is finished, I'm okay with that.

Good to know he's not in a panic. His plans were obviously in place before the BK interview and his "wanted" list will be with the club negotiaters.

I don't think he has to go to Brazil... just a TV studio, maybe Manchester or London.

Harold #412 you are right . His appearances for ESPN will not in anyway affect player transfers because that's done by other people with him getting involved if he needs to.

No doubt he will be doing a bit of talent spotting at the same time!

I imagine he'll in the US studio (as it's ESPN US, not the UK version).

I'm sure Martinez has given the club a list of players he would like to sign if the opportunity arose. I guess there are a lot of negotiations between our financial people, the players clubs and their agents before the manager gets to speak to players. We also live in a modern world with instant communications so the club can contact Roberto whenever they need to should something important come up. With no players to train with at the moment it makes sense for him to stay busy and check out a tournament like this.

Who are the clubs negotiators by the way??? Please tell me it's not Bill...

RM may have been better watching the England under 20's playing in the world cup in Turkey. With 7 Everton players representing England, it was a very opportunity to access their chances of playing in the first team against stiffer opposition in Turkey.
