His goalscoring debut in the League Cup, a brief cameo at the end of the goalless draw against Cardiff – where he arguably provided more goal threat in six minutes than the team had done in the previous 84 – combined with his application and progress in training, has led Martinez to hint that he is looking at bringing the Barcelona loanee on faster than originally planned. "Gerard is a player with great application in his work and already you can see that he is growing into a phenomenal footballer. He is only 19 and he is relying on his natural talent.
