More hard training for Hibbo

Forgotten man Tony Hibbert has been struggling to regain full match fitness after suffering an injury earlier in the season. He played the full 90 minutes as an over-age player in the Under-21s victory over Blackburn on Monday, and is keen to continue putting in the hard work to get back into the first team.

The veteran defender was encouraged by the workout and he says his goal is now to increase his fitness so that he can improve his chances of returning to the first-team as an option for Roberto Martinez.

"It was my first 90 minutes for a while and I needed it. It was a good game to play in," Hibbert told evertonfc.com.

"Possibly [I need to play more Under-21 games]. I need a lot more hard training sessions as well to get my breathing and fitness up there. It's up to the manager if he wants me to play in any more reserve games. It's good to get out there and play."

The fullback has been impressed with the new regime at Everton and also remarked on the form of the younger players who are part of Alan Stubbs' Under-21 side.

"It's been a very good start," he said. "The manager's come in and stamped his way that he wants to play. The lads have taken to that, we're playing some really good football and the record we had up to the City game was brilliant.

"The Under-21s did really well against Blackburn. Obviously we've got some good young lads. The team that Stubbsy and Unsy (David Unsworth) have here is really good and it was a pleasure to play with them."
