Deulofeu facing layoff with hamstring strain

Gerard Deulofeu will have his hamstring examined by club medical staff at Finch Farm to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he sustained in today's game against Fulham.

The Spaniard pulled up clutching his thigh with an hour gone of the 4-1 win and had to be stretchered off with a suspected muscle tear.

Manager Roberto Martinez confirmed the injury after the match saying, "he pulled his hamstring. We don't know how big the tear is but we expect him to be out for a little bit of time."

Martinez also said that he is hopeful of having the 19 year-old back for the last third of the campaign and the loss of one of his most effective weapons will come as a blow to his team.

The onus will now be on Deulofeu's replacement this afternoon — and the man whose place in the starting XI he took when he was named in the team to face Fulham — Kevin Mirallas, to find some consistency but the Belgian did come off the bench to top the Blues' win off with an injury-time goal.
