Big Dunc says team spirit is massive

Duncan Ferguson believes that Everton have the vital ingredient of team spirit that can help spur them on to Champions League qualification this season.

The former Blues Talisman was a member of the Everton side that was controversially eliminated in the final qualifying round of the Champions League in 2005, a team that was boasted a similar togetherness under then manager David Moyes.

“All great teams and all teams that are successful have that bond and togetherness," the Scot says in the Echo, "and I think Everton have had that — and they certainly have it at the moment. That combined with a lot of good players and talent as well.

“You also need consistency. Keeping away from injuries and suspensions. It's a long, hard season if you have a small squad. It can be beneficial to have a small squad because it pulls everyone together but you have got to stay away from injuries and suspensions. It is just that consistency and beat those top teams around about you.”
