The Stracq bangs in goals for Emelec

Argentine striker Denis Stracqualursi was an unknown quantity when Everton unearthed him back in 2011. But the bullish front-man became a firm fan-favourite of the Goodison faithful during his loan spell at the club with his tireless attitude and hardworking demeanour.

His poor goalscoring return and work permit issues were too big an issue for Everton to gamble on and he was allowed to leave when his loan finished — still something of a cult hero in Evertonians' eyes.

He joined San Lorenzo on a free transfer from his parent club Tigre where he had been banging in the goals previously. But last summer he joined Ecuadorean side Emelec — where he has been a resounding success.

He scored an impressive 10 goals in 16 games for the club last season as they went on to win the Primera A title and qualify for the Copa Libertadores.

And last night the talented striker scored his first ever goal in the Copa Libertadores — unfortunately in a 2-1 defeat against Brazilian side Flamengo. It was his fifth goal of his current season - and his 15th overall for the club in 33 appearances.

Emelec fans will hope he is now back to free-flowing goalscoring form while Everton fans would also not begrudge him any success.
