As Martinez has pointed out, the Blues can boast nine league titles and five FA Cups. Everton are an English football heavyweight.

However, times change in football and Everton have failed to win a trophy in 19 years. For that reason, an entire generation don’t see the Toffees as the giants they are – instead the club are merely viewed to make up the numbers.

Under David Moyes, in 2005, Everton broke into the top four. The club were doubted right until it was impossible for them to fall away having looked near certainties to go down at the start of the season. Miraculously, Moyes' men caught the winning bug and went on to record an incredible sequence of 1-0 wins to achieve one of the most impressive feats in Premier League history.

Back then, it was perhaps correct to expect the club to fail. Today, Everton are rightly challenging.
