Everton Academy manager, Alan Irvine, has been named as West Bromwich Albion's new manager following the dismissal of Pepe Mel at the end of the season.

The Scot, who has prior managerial experience at Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday, has been appointed on a rolling 12-month contract.

Irvine was preferred to the reported front-runner for the position, Tim Sherwood, who was recently ousted from the hotseat at Tottenham Hotspur.
