Everton expect Bryan Oviedo to play a part in the Under-21s' match against Liverpool on Thursday, two months after he suffered a hamstring injury in Bern.

The Costa Rican international has been sidelined since limping out of the away leg against Young Boys in the Europa League in mid-February but he is in line take some part in the mini-derby with a view to making his first-team return before the end of the season.

Oviedo's pulled up chasing a ball to the byline in the Blues' 4-1 win in Bern and was substituted soon afterwards. His initial prognosis was fairly optimistic but further scans of his injury revealed a tear at the top of the hamstring which has taken time to heal.

Manager Roberto Martinez has pencilled the 23-year-old in for a return to the first team for the last two matches of the season, by which time he is hopeful of being almost back to full strength.

“We'll monitor Steven Pienaar, and Bryan Oviedo will hopefully play some part for the Under-21s on Thursday," Martinez said. "So apart from Darron Gibson, we will have everyone back before the end of the season.”

Agreed, Harold, with Bryan’s attitude. What about Hibbert, so he is fully fit as well?

Given this latest setback, which must be a real bummer for the lad, weÂ’re closing this thread. There is a new one headlining on the home page.
