Everton duo feature in England U17s win

Everton Academy players James Yates and Nathan Holland played the full 90 minutes of England U17s' final European Championships group match this evening, a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland.

The result means the Young Lions progress to the last eight as group winners, still on track in their bid to retain the title that fellow Blues Ryan Ledson and Jonjoe Kenny helped win last year.

James Yates is an attacking right back , similar in build and quality to Jonjoe Kenny. He was very impressive in the U17 draw against Netherlands where he showed an impressive attacking skill, getting forward , beating his man , crossing accurately. He wasn’t so good in the game against Ireland, but I think he’s started at right back in the past 8 England games which is impressive in itself.
Too early to say how far he can go , but at 16 he’s got good prospects.
Holland is an attacking right wing/mf. He looks quite slight and maybe needs to fill out, but has undoubtedly got skill to get behind defences and cross.

The third guy ,not mentioned, is Tom Davies who has missed the last two matches due to injury. He’s a DF midfielder similar to Ledson, from the little I’ve seen of him he seems to have the best prospects of the 3.

As ever at this age how they kick on from here in terms of physical development , mental attitude and application are what literally separate the talented boys from the successful men.
