Everton have announced the appointment of Gary Brabin to the club's Academy coaching staff following his departure from Southport.

The 44-year-old left his position as manager of the Conference side on Monday night after overseeing an upturn in their fortunes which included a run to the FA Cup fourth round.

This lad definitely fits the bill. A tough life long Evertonian who has been round the block and back again. All lower league stuff but he knows his football.

A big admirer of Diego Simeone, he has studied his training methods at first hand and has built up contacts in Spain and the UK.

I wonder if one day he will be at least caretaker manager if Roberto goes. The way things are going anything is possible.

Yes, Paul, this lad is an intelligent ambitious coach on the way up but he has fallen out with plenty of bosses on the way and might be a bit feisty for BK.

There are lots of promising young coaches out there. The other night on the African show, I listened to Quinton Fortune, the Cardiff U21 boss, as he dissected every move. Didn't miss anything. Very impressive.

I was also impressed by Vago Steeve, D Kone and one of the Traores. Lots of talent and skill on show and they can sure thump a ball. Usually over the bar but thrilling nevertheless. Unlike Nais and Rom, they all had a good first touch.

What position does he play?
