Barkley is just 22 so the World Cup in 2018 might be a more realistic target?

At 22, his career is in danger of passing him by, if he doesn't lose some weight and show a bit more application. It spoke volumes that he was dropped by Unsie and Royle for the last game of the season. He's been shite since January.

Big season next year for Ross. I'd like nothing more than for him to prove me wrong, but he's not a kid any more. He needs to start dictating games, rather than playing one-twos on the halfway line then failing to track back. I'll be amazed if he gets any game time in the Euros - can anyone honestly say he deserves a go in the number 10 position ahead of Alli or Rooney?

As for Stones, I think Martinez' failure to give him any defensive coaching the last 3 years means that Smalling has overtaken him now. He could have been first choice, but he'll probably be back up to Cahill and Smalling, due to his defensive lapses. He needs to work on his defending, and then he will be England's first choice centre half, but this tournament has come too quickly for him now. He hasn't got time now to make the improvements needed.

"Can John Stones and Ross Barkley..." "... if Barkley and Stones are able to force their way into Hodgson’s starting XI" "... lead England to glory at Euro 2016?"

So, the point seems to be that they're more likely to be on the bench than leading England anywhere.

It is a complete joke Barkley even being in the squad. After his poor showing over the season, he is very lucky to be considered by England.

The Martinez factor is no more. Stones will play and the world will see what a blindingly talented centre half England have.

I believe they will be beating down our door for his signature.

Stones will learn a huge amount, even sitting on the bench just watching top class defenders.

Barkley drives me to despair, brilliant one week, then not worth his place the next, needs to realise he is not the dogs danglies just yet...

Blue tinted spectacles or what? I was surprised either of them got in the squad given how they've acquitted themselves the past few months.

I can't understand why Baines isn't on the plane as first choice given Danny Rose's performance v Turkey. Maybe Roy also has a Rose tinted pair. Jags should also have been an automatic choice.

England have as much chance of winning the Euros as I have in becoming our next manager. Then again....

Yes, they can. I think England will win it. Barkley must start alongside Wilshere. The midfield against Turkey was poor especially that over rated Delli Alli who was very poor. I have already got 20 notes on England at 9-1.

Have a feeling Barkley, might not go?

Barkleys going to be left out. Delph has no chance and Sturridge (if injured) or Rashford will miss out. That leaves one more exclusion. Since Roy is taking a chance on the barely fit Henderson and Wilshere he will want coverage for both which means Dier and Drinkwater. Alli and Lallana are good and his favorite respectively.

So one from Barks, Sterling, Milner and Townsend will miss out. In a young squad you need the experience of Milner plus he fits Hodgson's criteria of a "good lad." Sterling as an RS will go. Which means Ross v Townsend. Neither is likely to get much if any playing time which means your looking at a Hail Mary option when all else fails.

Who's more likely to come on and make something happen quickly either by fluke or design? It has to be Townsend. Can see Ross sulking all summer.

No , and in my opinion ALL Everton players involved with Engleland and ROI will look quite ordinary and then of course we have the current biggest mouth in football with Belgium who I believe will have a nightmare.

I don't think Ross will make the squad. With Rooney potentially more of an attacking midfielder and fitness concerns over Wilshere and Henderson, I think Drinkwater will get picked ahead of Ross.

Barkley, Delph and Rashford (or Sturridge if not fit) will be the three to miss out from the provisional squad.

In the England vs Australia game Ross continued his downward trajectory
He showed not a shred of the energy needed by a midfielder. He appears to be on the bulky side. A bit more hunger for the ball and fire in the belly is also required.
At cost to his defensive duties he has been allowed too much of a roaming role. Unless he gets really fit and fast there will not be a future for him in the PL.

No!

I Just can't get excited about our players joining the national squad.

If experience has taught us anything it's that our players either end up injured, lose form after a tournament, or get tapped up by twats like Gary 'giz a job' Neville or John 'are we all racists now Father Ted?' Terry.
