Everton snap up young Oldham 'keeper

The Blues have confirmed the acquisition of 18-year-old goalkeeper Chris Renshaw from League One side Oldham Athletic.

The 18-year-old has apparently been attracting attention from a number of bigger clubs and a report from earlier this week suggested that "talks will place" between the Blues and the Latics.

The deal could involve a new arrangement between the two clubs whereby Oldham would have an option to loan players from the Blues' Academy and Under-21s side.

Renshaw signs a three-year deal and joins a Finch Farm Academy that recently released Polish stopper Jindrich Stanek after two and a half years with the club.

Couldn't we loan them Lukaku?

I reckon a Tuesday evening in Oldham would do Rom the world of good. It is a world away from the shiny lights of Paris.

Asides from joking I hope we keep him.

And finally good luck to the new lad.

Great news, he could be the next Mason Springthorpe.

It is good for Chris to have joined our Academy. Wishing the best of opportunity at EFC

Eric #1,I am sure you're joking with your suggestion, don't let Rom curse you. (Laughter)

He could also be the next Neville Southall. And you could be the next Phil Walling....
Welcome aboard Chris.

More of a 'parasol' signing than a 'marquee', but some of our best players have come into the club this way (with no hype or expectation). Obviously there are many that haven't made the grade also, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Does anyone know if RK has brought his Goalkeeping coach along for the ride? I never liked the look of the previous neanderthal (no offense like).

Hi Lyndon,
I think Stanek is from the Czech Republic, not Poland.

I presume "a number of bigger clubs" means bigger than Oldham, not bigger than us. No club is bigger than us.

Apparently Ronald Koeman was heard to say " it's a keeper"......a la Austin Powers Goldmember

Olalekan #5, I was thinking it might teach him a bit of humility as well as reminding him that his contract is in our hands, unless he wants to break it.

Hope he works out better than the last Oldham keeper we signed.

Duncan, 9. No, he hasn't. His name is Dave Watson who's also employed by another underachieving set up, the England national team but unlike our failings, we have a future.

Welcome, lad, to the best club there is. Once Everton has touched you...

Welcome to Everton and I hope you have a great future with us but we still need a top keeper for next season. I am seeing articles about transfer activity at other clubs but nothing about us yet.

Peter Gorman. 4. Not clever and not funny. Actually a little bit sad.
