Swiss exit means Tarashaj can prepare for life at Finch Farm

Switzerland were beaten in the first knockout game of Euro2016, meaning that Shani Tarashaj's brief participation in the tournament is over.

A missed penalty by new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw put Poland through and sent the Swiss home in heart-breaking fashion.

Tarashaj, still only 21, was low on the totem pole in the Switzerland side coming into the tournament and was not expected to play much and the only action he ended up seeing was as a late substitute during the group stages.

The forward, a January signing by Roberto Martinez who spent the second half of 2015-16 on loan back at Grasshopper Zurich, can now get ready to link up with his new Everton team-mates for pre-season, although he could get extended leave due to his involvement in the European Championships this month.

He is pushing for a place in the Swiss side. That's why he's there!

Haha innit Dave. Trevor, Tarashaj has come from nowhere to get in the Swiss squad for the Euros. He wasn't involved in any of the qualifying games and broke into the squad on the eve of the tournament so he's clearly kicked on this season and made a big impression to make his way into the squad.

Hopefully he can come in and make a big impression on Koeman this pre season.

The best thing is for our players to report back uninjured. But it would be nice for some Everton representation in the latter stages.

Which player(s) will progress the furthest?

The big worry is that RM signed him which probably isn't fair, but his track record isn't good. Let's hope he'll be the exception and be a shining light.

Come on Clive, 'his track record isn't good', he's 21 ffs.

And 'Martinez signed him', didn't he also sign Rom, Mori and Del boy.

You are right, Anthony, but with Romelu failing to find a new home and Niasse having to justify his fee, where will Shani fit in? Brentford, maybe?

Jesus, no wonder this site has a reputation for being full of 'miserable buggers', the kid's 21, no-one has seen him play a SINGLE game in a blue shirt, and some people have already decided he's a misfit!!

Welcome to Goodison, Tarashaj.

Well said, Steve.
Wish I had a crystal ball like some on here.

I don't think anyone has decided that he is a misift.

History suggests that it's more likely he'll not make the grade than be the next huge superstar but I haven't seen anyone who's not prepared to give him a chance.

Are you being too negative about the negativity?!!

"History suggests"
Oh my days. Nothing like giving anyone a chance.

Andrew@17, did you actually read my post?

Either you didn't or you clearly misunderstood it as the point is that everyone SHOULD give him a chance.

Oh my days indeed.
