Jagielka withdraws from England squad with injury

Phil Jagielka has returned to Finch Farm from the England camp after picking up a thigh strain but is expected to be fit to face Manchester City.

The Blues' skipper was the only Everton player selected by Gareth Southgate for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia but has now been forced to withdraw.

Jagielka has been ever-present in the Premier League for Everton after recovering from a hamstring injury that restricted his participation in pre-season and should recover from this latest concern in time for the trip to the Etihad Stadium on 15 October.

Always worry when any of our lot are included in international games, please God no more injuries as our squad is not exactly bloated with alternatives.

Happy for Phil and Everton, he probably wouldn't have played anyway. Waste of time and a risk. Getting ready for Man City is far more important.

Good – pointless taking any risks. The BBC Sports page reports the injury 'is not thought to be serious with Everton's captain expected to be fit for the his side's trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City next Saturday.'

Funes Mori would have his wish come true then.
