Blues legends Duncan Ferguson and David Unsworth were on hand at Finch Farm recently to receive a generous cheque from Football Aid, made payable to Everton in the Community.
The Club's official charity has been working alongside Football Aid since 2001 to host the annual ‘Live the Dream' fundraising event at Goodison Park which gives Evertonians the opportunity to become a Premier League footballer for the day as they pull on the royal blue shirt and walk out the tunnel to the sound of Z Cars before playing 90 minutes on the hallowed turf of the Old Lady.
Football Aid was created as a unique way of raising money for charity and voluntary organisations and the overwhelming success of the ‘Live the Dream' matches at Goodison Park has seen Everton in the Community awarded £40,000 and Big Dunc and Rhino met with David Dale, Chief Executive Officer of Football Aid, recently to take receipt of the donation on behalf of Everton in the Community alongside Carena Duffy, the charity's Fundraising Manager who said:
“We are thrilled to accept the generous donation of £40,000 from Football Aid. Its' a great partnership and one that we truly believe in. This kind donation will allow EitC to continue its life changing work across Merseyside and beyond, touching the lives of the most vulnerable and those who need the most help. We look forward to welcoming Football Aid back to Goodison Park next May and for many seasons to come.
Football Aid Chief Executive Officer David Dale added:
“Football Aid allows fans to live the dream and follow in the footsteps of their Everton heroes by bidding for the chance to play at Goodison Park. The funds that are generated sees us make a donation back to Everton in the Community to enable them to continue developing the projects they run across Merseyside.”
“We are celebrating our 15th anniversary this season and Everton have been with us every step along the way as one of our founding members and they have been an ever-present every single year; our relationship with the club is very special and we take great pride in that.”
The ‘Live The Dream' events have seen over 17,000 players take part in over 645 games at UK clubs since Football Aid's debut season in 2001 and have donated over £2.3million in charitable grants in the last 15 years.
