Blues youngsters called up by England

Seven Everton players have been summoned for international duty by England today.

Mason Holgate has been included in the England Under-21 squad to face Germany and Denmark this month while Tom Davies will be in the Under-19s party for their three Under-19 European Championship qualifiers at St George's Park.

Both players have broken into Everton's first team this season, with Davies in particular cementing his place in Ronald Koeman's side but it seems he will have to wait for a call-up to either the U21s with Holgate or the senior international team.

Meanwhile, the U20s squad has no fewer than five Blues players in it, with Callum Connolly, Jonjoe Kenny, Kieran Dowell, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all called up.

Well done Tom Davies. Of course if he was at Old Trafford he'd have been picked for the full international squad.

3 games before the Derby for Davies? I hope Koeman, is having a quiet word with England.

So glad the selectors are aware of where the real talent is – let's hope that this is the beginning of a new trend of nurturing local talent as a foil to the lunacy of spending untold millions in trying to keep the fans happy but charging them obscene sums to watch the players who are earning ridiculous amounts on the back of it all – how much was Alex Young being paid to provide the magical spectacle of showing off his natural footballing talents?

Can someone ask EFC to invest a tenner or two to put a couple of microphones somewhere in the region of the people asking RK the questions to which he's giving the answers?

Terry,
I know its off topic but I totally agree with you.

It is very frustrating not being able to listen to the questions.

These England call-ups all reflect Southgate's obsession with coming through the ranks. Maybe Tom Davies will get a call up to the under 21s before he plays his 100th game for Everton.

A little surprised that Tom didn't get called up for the U21s and yes, if he played for Man Utd he would have done!

Very good that the famous five got called up for U20s – it would be interesting to see how many make the starting eleven.

Who in their right mind schedules three U-19s international games for this time of the season and wants Premier League first team players to take part?

Conspiracy theory is that the FA don't want to see us beat the dark side at Mordor so it's order from the top for Tom to play the 3 full 90 minutes.

It's probably correct to say he'd more likely get into the senior squad sooner if he played for a Sky Darling.

There's no rush; we know where he's headed.

It's not a conspiracy theory, its just common sense. What is it that is supposed to be proved by playing in these games? Play those U-19s that are not playing at a much superior level, its for the advancement of promising players not to add to the CV of the person appointed to coach them!

Absolute nonsense putting a first team player, who now plays senior football in the most physical league in Europe, in the U19s. Bloody ridiculous. He's now a Premier League player and needs to be considered for England's first team or U21s.

How is he behind Kieran Dowell, Callum Connolly etc? Very strange management. Should at least be in the U20s if not the U21s given he has been starting for a couple of months now.

The conspiracy theories on this thread are bordering on the mad!!!

Actually I don't understand the need for so many under-x tournament. Under-19, Under-20, Under-21... what else? Is there a need to have one for each year of age difference?

How Dowell makes it ahead of LIam Walsh or Harry Charsley is beyond me, unless neither are eligible for England. Antonee Robinson too.

Harry Charsley plays for the Rep. of Ireland, Gary.

Also, as strange as Walsh's exclusion is (presumably there are more talented defensive midfielders in his age group, doubt it), Dowell has been playing well of late and is still a pretty unique talent as English players go.

Also the whole Tom Davies thing; England must really want to win those U19 games. Would it be wise to consider pulling out of those games?

Davies is now at the stage where he looks a bit too good for the U23s let alone U19s, he is a first team player for sure. At the worst he should be joining Mason in the U21s.

I wonder is the opportunity being taken to "Download" a little of Tom's obvious progress into the other younger lads while the chance remains?

A bit surprised about Walsh to be honest. I know he's had a few injuries, wether that's the reason I'm not sure.

Tony (#2),

I'm sure Liverpool must have a bundle of players involved in international duty as well?

Well done to all the lads.

I agree with the other comments though.

Davies in the U19s! No Walsh!

Who makes these decisions?

Matthew Clarke

For those debating why Walsh hasn't been called up to the England U21's it's because he has chosen to play for Wales

Where did you hear that, Matthew?
