Everton launch bid for Tisserand

| Sunday, 16 July 2017  31 Comments  [Jump to last]
Everton have submitted an opening offer for FC Ingolstadt's Marcel Tisserand according to a report in France.

RMC Sport claim that the Blues have offered €3m for the 24-year-old defender as Ronald Koeman and Steve Walsh look for reinforcements at the back.

Saint-Etienne are also keen on the Meaux-born defender who plays his international football for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ingolstadt are believed to value him at around €8m.

Not a particularly credible story. Everton is the go-to name of the moment to big up a player who we have no interest in. The Martins Indi story has at least a bit of plausibility in the context of the Stoke situation.

With Funes Mori out, I thought that this could be credible story if he was a left-sided defender. But he isn't, so I think it's bullshit – or a story drummed up by his agent.

Never heard of him; move on.

If it is true that Funes Mori will be out for quite a while, then Bruno Martins Indi is the more likely player. He played under Koeman at Feyenood & is a left footed central defender (he can also play left back).

As Funes Mori was injured on international duty I have a few questions.

Are Everton entitled to any compensation?

Are his wages paid in full by Argentina for the duration of the injury?

Is this taken into account with Financial Fair play? Meaning we can effectively increase the wage bill with an offset against his wages being paid by Argentina?

I thought Palace just signed Martins Indi?

Neil, how can you be so dismissive? He could be a Walsh hidden gem.

I agree, Nigel, just because we've not heard of this lad doesn't mean he's not quality.

Koeman and Walsh must be left to sign players and we get to give a judgment on them once we get to see them.

If Funes Mori moves on then I'd Imagine someone will be brought into replace him.

Williams is the left sided defender of Koeman's choice, Keane must be a cert to start, Galloway has gone on loan along with Browning, Jagielka's future is up in the air and I don't see Pennington being good enough to get into a side in the top half of the Premier League.

Seriously typical ToffeeWebbers. We target proven Premier League players and see comments like "I thought Walsh was supposed to find hidden gems?". We target players we don't know and we hear "never heard of him, why don't we target proven players" .

Just proves people are here are never happy no matter what the scouts do.

Anthony (#8). Funes Mori is out for a while now so I doubt if he'll be sold.

For all our transfer business, just shows how short we were in some areas as we are still seriously lacking in other positions, one of them being quality center backs. Hopefully it will get rectified soon seeing as we haven't got long until the season starts now.

James, I personally would rather see Funes Mori remain at the Blues regardless of injury. If it were up to me and he was fit, then I'd make him my first-choice left-sided centre-half.

Imo, Funes Mori is our best header of a ball, and he's quick enough to cover the left-back, unlike Williams.

I've said this before, I'm aware he makes the odd cock-up, but so do most centre-halves. If he played week-in & week-out with Keane, I think he would become one of the most sought-after centre-halves about.

James (#9), 'We target proven Premier League players and see comments like "I thought Walsh was supposed to find hidden gems?". We target players we don't know and we hear "never heard of him, why don't we target proven players"' .

Have you seen those two sentences uttered by the same guy? ;-)

James Watts

Not sure I agree, Anthony (#10). I think he's a liability and I'm always nervous when he's on the ball. A bit like I was when Stones played. I did see he was out until Christmas but regardless I would like us to get another centre-back in, as don't think the 3 we have to go with Keane are good enough.

Having said that, I'm not sure we will actually get another one due to needs in other areas, ie. striker, playmaker, winger and full backs! Still quite a hefty list when you think of the players we've already brought in.

Haha David (#11). I haven't paid close enough attention but I think if I dug through posts I'm sure there would be a few! It's obvious both have a place, proven and unproven players, but some people just like to moan for no reason.

James @9,

Probably those are people belong to different "camps"?

Some of us prefer proven names, some prefer Walsh's gems.

Okay, David @11, you beat me to that.

He will cost pennies so get him in. Keep Funes Mori too – I think offloading Jags would be more beneficial now.
James Watts

But you are missing my point, Daniel. When people start whinging why don't they think to themselves "Hey you know what, we need both" instead of just concentrating on the negative? But I guess that's asking for too much unfortunately.

Pennies? Friggin' pennies, Rick? Oh how arrogant have we become in such a short time....

By the end of the window, the rest will be praying we fail!

We need a big centre-half who can make the most of Sigurdsson's set-pieces. I have no idea if this guy fits the profile.

I would love us to do something truly spectacular and bring in Van Dijk. It would make my summer. If reports are true about him only wanting to sign for Liverpool, then I have to question why? What's the connection?

Surely Koeman sharing an agent and being a family friend would allow him to sell 'our project' to him. What could Klopp have said to convince him over a fellow countryman who has a previous relationship with him? Very frustrating as it's not as if Liverpool are guaranteed regular champions league, and we are clearly on the up.

Van Dijk and Keane together would be formidable. If he goes to the Dark Side then I fear, for all our optimism, they will be a bridge too far this season.

James Watts

Chris (#18). Might be a bit ahead of yourself there, Sigurdsson hasn't even signed (and it's gone very quiet on it too, whether that's a good or bad thing I don't know) let alone getting in Van Dijk.

But I wouldn't take the Van Dijk "I only want Liverpool" crap. I think that is the lovely press and their Liverpool fascination / love-in bollocks in full swing. Typical bullshit coverage they get.

Having said that, if they do get him, I would love Southampton to report them to the FA, Uefa and Fifa so they get a nice transfer ban.

James, I'll be amazed if we don't sign Sigurdsson. I think it will happen this week.

Chris (#18) and James (#19), I posted on another Everton website last week that someone who 'works' at Finch Farm was telling friends that Everton were definitely preparing a bid for Van Dijk, or had already made one.
Dave Pritchard

Neil at #3 has never heard of him so concludes he must be rubbish. I've never heard of him either but have no idea if he's any good.

(I bow deferentially to Neil.)

Chris Gould

Dave, if that's true then it would be fantastic. A Koeman vs Klopp head-to-head. It would be amazing to win, but unbelievably painful to lose.

I'm assuming we'd only put in a bid if Koeman's and Van Dijk's agent had given it the nod.

Dave Pritchard

Virgil Van Dijk would be a massive statement of intent by the club. It would be nice to think that Koeman's Dutch connection would help but not really expecting it to as the Champions League lure is likely to be a stronger pull for the player.
Tom Bowers

Have to admit I still like Funes Mori. He is a good defender and very good in the air. You don't get to play consistently for Argentina if you a bum. Like all players, he can make a mistake now and then and plays like David Luiz a little, but isn't Luiz top-rated?

Having said that, the injury problem may decide his future and Everton need cover on the left side before the season starts.

Shaun @6

Crystal Palace signed Jairo Riedewald, dutch defender. Paper talk is they are interested in Bruno Martins Indi & 6 other defenders including the redshite one. But this is false news is only used to sell newspapers.

Martins Indi is still a Porto player at present.

Chris @23

I hope Van Dijk's agent has given the nod. About time we got another one over on the dirty Red Shite.

Andrew Keatley

David (#27) – I don't think Riedewald is a Palace player yet. Apparently it is imminent, but these things have taken last-minute turns as we found out last season with Sissoko...
Derek Knox

Realistically, although I would love us to get Van Dijk, but I have a hunch we may get Bruno Martins Indi, it makes sense too, proven Premier League performer, left-sided centre-back or left-back, but mainly at centre-back.

Reports say that because Frank de Boer now at Palace, he has signed, but on their website there is no mention, and newspaper rumours (I know) are saying the deal has been interrupted due to interest, from another Premier League Club, believed to be us!

I hope it is, he would fit in and with the Dutch connection and our manager, who knows?

Derek 3, Van Dijk's middle names are Samuel Tristan! S T V D... better let him go to the Dark Side! Oo er, missus.

Paul @31, or something that you have to go to a 'special clinic' to hopefully get a cure!
