Match Summary

Everton lost to Derby County in Martin Taylor's testemonial match. Neville Southall wore the No 7 shirt and came close to scoring direct from the kick-off. Everton took the lead through Gary Speed from a Cadamarteri cross, but Derby soon took control with goals from Kavanagh and Powell.

Russell Hoult! headed Derby's 3rd before Taylor got on the score-sheet with a last minute penalty. Derby featured Dean Saunders and Mark Wright amongst their half-time substitutions.

John O'Connor was Superb

Wesley Snipes:  Just a quick note to say that it was John Hills that got taken off after 14 mins, he got stood on by Asanovic.

By the way, Gary Speed was outstanding, he ran the show in midfield, but although it was a friendly, Cadamateri, Stuart, and Eaton were disappointing. Nev played well in midfield, and John O'Connor looked superb -- I'm sure he willl be getting tons of games next year. Can he play right back? Problem solved. Young Millligan battled well too.

We finished the game with only Gerrard, O'Connor, Eaton, Cadamateri, Southall, and Millligan that I recognised. Derby scored two creditable goals, but the other two were farcical.
