Laurence Wilson - Defender | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Laurence Wilson was one of a group of youngsters graduating from the Everton Youth Academy in 2005 and being rewarded with professional contracts and a place in the Everton first team squad. For Wilson, it also lead to some high-profile bench-warming when Moyes had to find seven subs for games in the ill-fated European adventure of 2005. But he never reached those dizzying heights again, and was farmed out on loan to Mansfield Town in January 2006 for what turned out to be the rest of the season. And that usually means the kiss of death under Moyes — out of sight; out of mind... Sure enough, on 8 May 2006 when the axe fell, Laurence Wilson was one of six youngsters who had been named to the senior squad, but had failed to make any appearances for the first team — to be released. The young fullback cum winger had been on loan with Mansfield Town since January and had stated that, if he had no future with the Toffees, then he would like to sign for the Stags. Wilson impressed in his 15 games for the Stags, scoring once. The youngster can play either on the wing or at full back. But he eventually joined Chester City, who finished one place below Mansfield in League Two.
