Wrong Target

Just a thought on all the Kirkby debate.

Kenwright is on the record as saying the council categorically refuse us permission to extend the footprint at Goodison. It is also clearly intimated that they have been obstructive in terms of supporting our efforts. It was also on the record from the club some years ago that we were point-blank refused permission to build on Stanley Park.

Clearly we can't afford a stadium on our own so, like Arsenal, another club with a 'traditional' board, we need a partner, in our case Tesco. So, is Kirkby the best option because it suits Tesco to build there or because Liverpool City Council won't co-operate sufficiently?

As many people don't trust Kenwright, no matter what he says, maybe it would be better to direct the questioning at Liverpool City Council or even Tesco themselves. Seeing as Kenwright is casting aspersions at the council, surely — if pressured — they would want to set the record straight, or can none of them be trusted? Is it a case of who do you mistrust the most as we are pretty short of clear-cut facts.

Given the clear stance of a lot of Evertonians, it seems strange that the finger-on-the-pulse local press don't seem to have asked these questions, at least not very forcibly. I wonder why? As it's such a crucial decision for our future, it seems strange that nobody is really pressing the council as to why it seems as though they are far more supportive of one team than the other. Is it status, finance or spin from Billy Liar?

If Everton can't convince people, maybe somebody else should be put on the spot. You never know, we might even get the truth.
