Vogel's battle with Betis continues

By Lyndon Lloyd : 16 Aug 2007
Johann Vogel remains in limbo after an apparent free transfer to Everton collapsed last month when Real Betis insisted that they had not released the midfielder and refused to free him of his contract which runs until 2009.

The Swiss international was excluded from training by Betis on 6th August and, according to the Spanish newspaper, Marca, Vogel is accusing the Andalucian club of breach of that contentious contract.

Vogel remains hopeful of securing a move either to Everton — his preferred destination — or elsewhere before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. The Blues are believed to have baulked at paying Betis up to £1m for the 30 year-old so his hopes of coming to Goodison would seem to rest on him being able to sort out his contractual issues with his current employers.
