McFadden not a signing, insists Moyes

David Moyes goes to some lengths to counter the negative vibes surrounding Jamie McFadden's return to Everton, insisting he is not actually a signing:

?I think James McFadden would be worth bringing in as a free transfer no matter what,? said the Goodison manager, ?That's why there were a few clubs in for him.

?We just need to check how quickly we can get him back playing after his knee injury; before he got injured he was arguably Birmingham's best player.

?It's amazing that we bring a player in who is on a free, we're a bit short, and there's an awful lot of attention drawn to it.

?Some clubs buy players for massive money and don't play them or let them go on loan, and nobody says anything.

?We've brought someone in for nothing who we are going to use. What's the big problem? What would people be saying if I'd brought Faddy in a few days before the deadline??

?If Faddy helps us out then great,? said the manager. ?If he doesn't then we'll go our separate ways at the end of the season, but if it does then we'd have sold someone for £5m then bought him back for nothing, so that's good business.

?It's a wee bit of a gamble. But if anybody reads into it as an Everton signing, then that's way off the mark. Folks need to put it in the right place.

?You can't sign players right now, the window is shut, so we've got in a free agent.?
