City will price Johnson beyond Everton reach

The Daily Mail claims that Man City will be looking to offload Adam Johnson for £10M. This and his £50k/pw wages are likely to price Everton out of the running.

I'd hope the fact that he is shit would put us out of the running.

Couldn't disagree more, Dan. I think he's an excellent, classy attacker with a real burst of pace. I have always rated him higher than Milner, and earlier this season, when Milner and Nasri were keeping him on the bench, I hoped we could work out a loan deal for him. I think he's definitely work 10 mil, but obviously his wages won't fit our budget.

Quality player. Really bad decision going to city when he was so young. Needs to be playing regularly and establishing himself not sitting on the bench. He would be a perfect fit for Everton. Aside from the price tag.

Quality player and depressing to think that the financial might of Sunderland and QPR will likely tempt him before us.

A fantastic player. Well, potentially. I would love us to sign him. I have always thought he would do well for us and he is much younger than Pienaar and much less of a "maverick" than Drenthe.

Love to see someone like Johnson at Goodison, plenty if pace and showed guile (regarded as a better player than Downing by most at Middlesboro).

When City were playing the loanee game, he was just behind Bellamy (yes Bellamy - bloody great striker and arguably Liverpool's most consistent performer this year up front) on the shopping list.

Even if we had £10M to spend in the summer (we don't) I couldn't argue for it going on one player.
We need to secure Pienaar (going to be £4-5M) figure out what's happening with Straq and Drenthe and then deal with strengthening the squad positions accordingly (of which the right side is a priority though I agree).

If given a chance by Mancini, he would have shown what quality he is. Would love to see him with us.

I?m with Dan on this one. Johnson may have good pace, decent skills and a reasonable shot but he sure as hell wasn?t blessed with a footballer?s brain.

The recent England - Holland match was a prime example. The Dutch had two defensive midfielders screening the centre-backs. Playing through the centre of the defense was a virtual impossibility, but Johnson cut in time and time again whilst Baines was in a great wide possession screaming for the ball.

I think bar Silva, Johnson has been City's most effective wide player this season. For time on the pitch, his contributions are unreal and contray to what Aiden thinks, I believe he has a great football brain. I would be very suprised if Mancini lets him leave though, and if he does ago, I expect there will be alot of competition from the likes of Chelski, Liverpool, Newcastle and Spurs.

Agree with Dan and Aiden.. he's brain dead and lacks discipline or understanding of his position but he is young.

Won't be coming to Everton, regardless.

Absolutely cracking player.

Another example of the distrust skilful english players have to put up with.

Unless they are eyes bulging Rooney types prepared to kick lumps out of people they are "luxury players".

Gone backwards under Mancini at the right club he'd be devastating - Arsenal or Spurs - terrified he ends up across the park.

10 million? absolute gift.

It moves us up a few positions, 10 mil is worth it, no?

At £0.5 million a place, he'd have to win us the league and the cup, James.

A lot of my family are Man City fans, as my mum was born there, and my cousins are current season ticket holders, so I find myself watching them alot or at least hearing alot about them. The occasional cameo where Johnson has come on and scored has blinkered many. Basically when he starts a game he is crap, and has little or no influence on the game. Makes the wrong decision pretty much every time he has to make one, and has 1 good cross in 20. These are the words of match going Man City fans who see both flanks as a bit of an issue at the club.

If we can secure Pienaar, possibly sign Stracq and keep hold of Baines & Rodwell then I reckon that would represent good summer business. We need more squad players to come in as a number of our regulars are well into their 30s now. The price tag for Johnson would probably wipe out all the money.
