We often get asked by away fans and marketing companies compiling guides for travelling supporters what the best places are for eating and drinking before the game at Goodison Park.

Everyone has their favourites, of course, either in town or closer to the ground, but we're interested to hear your recommendations below.

I drink in the Harlech Castle before the game. No-nonsense pub, but is very close to the ground, so it is handy.

After the game, Rigby's for a nice pale ale. And then a chippy tea!

The Black Horse has been our pick for a number of years. Not too far from the ground for it to be a walk-up pub, far enough away for it not to be a Wimslow type scrum (no offence to the Wimslow or the Blues that drink there). Also, it's got a massive beer garden, great in August - September and April - May. Hope this helps.

I used to love going to the social club near Lidls on County Road when I was younger. Is it still closed?

It has to be the Ship & Mitre, where a fair few away and home fans gravitate to anyway. Great for beer and a friendly atmosphere, and handy for that last minute dash to the cabs at the end of the road!

Niall, The Chang reps should go to the Ship and Mitre if only to find what decent beers taste like.

Definitely ,Ron. We took a German friend there before a game and he was well impressed by the range of draft beers and continental bottled beers. There is also good basic and well priced pub grub to be had. Top boozer.

Hard pushed to beat the Chinese chippy opposite St Luke's Church and William Hills near Gwladys Street, well worth a walk down. Always queuing outside, but they serve really quick and not much waiting time.

Brian, "The Goodison Supper Bar", completely agree, the best match day chippy.

The highly superior "Byrnes" (so good they named it once, the 4th generation chippy on Stuart Road, Walton) is not really open during pre-match periods (11:30 am to 7:00 pm Mon to Fry. Not Sat or Sun). They are Evertonians and by far the most excellent fryers of fish and chips anywhere. Make the effort sometime, once tasted forever relished.

For a drink in town, I agree about the Ship and Mitre (or as my lazy minded mate once called it, the Crown and Sphincter!). I however generally drink in the Saddle on Fountains Rd. Great little pub with brilliant staff.
