Andy Carroll lined up in £20m deal by Everton

| Sunday, 01 October 2017  76 Comments  [Jump to last]

The Sun claims that Andy Carroll is being lined up by Everton in a £20m deal that would bring him back to Merseyside. Everton's under-fire boss Ronald Koeman supposedly has the West Ham striker top of his list to finally replace Romelu Lukaku.

The club's failure to land a striker after pocketing £75m selling Lukaku to Manchester United has supposedly sparked tension between Koeman, Director of Football Steve Walsh and Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright.

Injury-hit Carroll, 28, joined Hammers from Liverpool four years ago having spent 18 months at Anfield following a £35m move from Newcastle. He missed the start of the season with a groin problem but made his comeback in last month's win over Huddersfield.

Carroll has 18 months left on his £110,000-a-week deal and the speculation is that West Ham could be prepared to look at a cash deal if they get the right offer in January.

Hahaha! Gary Lineker has just read that headline from one of tomorrows rags saying "Everton lining up £20m bid for Andy Carroll."

Did I hear that right on MOTD? We are lining up a £20M bid for Andy Carroll?

Sack him now if true!

Peter Murphy

According to The Sun and MotD, we are after Andy Carroll...

Well, that's everything sorted then, phew! A fit, strong, pacey, injury-free striker to sort us out and save Ronald's bacon.

Andrew James
5 Posted 01/10/2017 at 01:27:47
He's 28 now?

There's a guy who stole a living like so many others.

He's rarely fit and when he is, he's hit and miss. If we buy him, we should fire Walsh and Koeman.

Carroll is a poor man's Duncan Ferguson if you can imagine such a thing given Big Dunc spent so much time injured or suspended

Koeman should be sacked immeadiately even if it's bollox! I wouldn't give you 20p for that shite. Never mind £20 fucking million.

It's not about if it's true or not. It's just as damaging if false - the rumour categorizes us as the kind of loser club that might consider such a waste of space purchase

Giroud, Benteke, Caroll. We're even being linked with the lower level of donkey now. Any brief pretensions we had to being a Big Club, the media will take great delight in besmirching – another dividend of the Koeman era.

Brian Williams
12 Posted 01/10/2017 at 02:22:41
Come on lads ffs. Have you forgotten all the shite in the rags while the transfer window was open, all the players we were linked with then?

It's so ridiculous it's actually funny, something to be laughed at not to be angry at.

If we buy back Gibson then him and McCarthy supplying Andy Carroll would be unbeatable – with interchangeable crutches that is.
Ralph Basnett
22 Posted 01/10/2017 at 09:25:03
Fucks sake, Peter Crouch is available!!!!

Our biggest [problem recruiting a top striker is the fact that with Koeman at the helm we are not going to be a top team and top strikers want to play in tops teams - Lukaku?

Get Ancelotti before someone else and tell him he has from now to Jan to source that striker

As so many have already stated, its easy this football management.

Len Hawkins
23 Posted 01/10/2017 at 09:35:03
Oliver 21# Like it or not The Sun is a national Newspaper it is not good enough for Bog Paper but it is a dangerous road to start wanting the National Broadcaster to deny it's existence. Is the Daily Sport still going? I used to read it at work if there was one lying about but never knew anyone admit to buying it.

As for Carroll? We might as well tap Tyson Fury up he is a big useless lump but might be a cheaper option.

Dermot Byrne
24 Posted 01/10/2017 at 09:45:02
The thread has begun with wise dismissal of this nonsense. Please let's not let it deteriorate into a debate about the strengths and weaknesses of this guy. Because then it will move onto another reason to sack the manager. And after 700 posts, a warning or two from Michael and the psychological analysis of someone or other, we will come to realise it hasn't fucking happened!
Daniel Lim
25 Posted 01/10/2017 at 10:15:45
He is exactly what we need, so that Koeman will get the sack finally as Goodison Park will be all visiting fans. Maybe they wouldn't even come!

Andrew #5, he's a carbon copy of Duncan in my opinion. At least he's only ever out injured though.
Frank Crewe
30 Posted 01/10/2017 at 11:14:13
We can't buy anyone until January. By then we could be just about anywhere in the league. Depending on where we are will pretty much decide who will sign and who won't.

This rumour has about as much chance of actually happening as the Cavani rumour. Who knows Niasse, assuming Koeman gets his act together and gives him the opportunity, and Calvert-Lewin might by knocking in the goals by then so we might not need to buy anyone other than a back up for those two.

Tony Twist
31 Posted 01/10/2017 at 11:33:03
Jesus wept! Mind you he fits the bill, he only has to look at a ball to get injured! Right up Everton's street. I will give up on Everton, after forty nine years, if we buy him.
Colin Glassar

That noise you can hear is the sound of the RS pissing themselves laughing at even the thought of it. Koeman should be sacked for just thinking about signing the injury-prone sack of shite.

Well, why not? Makes perfect sense when we currently have so many crosses being whipped into the box by our pacy wingers. Plus: man bun (If he still has it?). Bound to make Ashley Williams feel a bit better about himself.

Another serial crock. We have enough as it is. We'll probably sign him then.

Andy Carroll... the saviour of Everton. Somehow, I don't think so. But we do need a saviour – that is blatantly obvious.

John Hammond
43 Posted 01/10/2017 at 18:39:26
Nah utter nonsense. If we were going to offer £75m for Costa then that cash is being kept in a little box somewhere ready for January where it'll be thrown at the best possible forward we can get.
Matt Nash
44 Posted 01/10/2017 at 19:15:09
You know what, we could do a lot worse for £20mill.

Chris Wood £16Mill. Market value, however West Ham will not sell for £20Mill. He's not that bad for £20mil in this day an age. I wouldn't like to defend against him, but man bun and all that, the wanker.

Terry Underwood

Lots of posts saying "Why would we want him?" The thing is, why would he want us?

We seem to have the strange idea that we are anything more than a mid table side (with a bit of luck).

Let’s face it decent delivery into the box to a fit in form Carroll would be dangerous.

The problem.

We have no wingers to deliver into the box and Carroll is either out of form or injured too often.

If this story holds any weight.

We all despair.

Alexander Murphy

Utter bilge.

If you think this rumour is scary then one Italian rag has us in talks with Walter Mazzarri. Yes, Walter Mazzari, the former Watford manager who couldn’t speak a word of English and was sacked because he was shitto.

You couldn’t make this up, could you?

James Ebden
55 Posted 02/10/2017 at 09:47:52
When he burst on the scene at Newcastle Carroll was a serious talent. I remember the 6-0 win they had against Villa when he scored his hat-trick, he was completely unplayable. Sadly injuries meant his career never fulfilled its full potential.

Part of me thinks he would be a threat linking up with Siggys set plays, and generally make a nuisance of himself for defenders. But £20m is silly for someone who will probably play at best 10 games a season.

I don't believe this for a minute but if we had scouts in South America or Eastern Europe for example, we might be linked with attractive prospects.

What do our scouts do? Buy Bolasie, Sigurdsson, Keane? Not saying these players shouldn't be signed but its hardly scouting is it.

You, me or Stevie Wonder could have signed them players just by looking and stats. And failing to dissect the stats.

Tim Locke

Spend the $20 million on buying out Koemans contract
Steavey Buckley
67 Posted 04/10/2017 at 13:02:22
He will find another friend, James McCarthy, in the treatment room, who is due there soon after another injury while playing for Ireland.

Could not make it up, Koeman is looking for a striker at the worst time of the year after Christmas, when he had from May to the end of August to look for one.

Gavin Johnson
68 Posted 04/10/2017 at 23:30:41
Too injury prone and a poor man's big Dunc.

Controversial choice but I'd sign Ballotelli and think we should have got him in the summer before he signed a new contract with Nice. He would have only cost a fraction of the money we were willing to put down for Giroud. He could have done a very good job until we land a first choice target.

Will Mabon

We could swap Barkley for him in January. Keeps the books in balance.

Michael Penley

What a dreadful proposition, swapping Barkley for Carroll. Are we going to continue to swap our promising young talent for washed up 30+ retirees?

Michael - maybe!
Sam Hoare
72 Posted 05/10/2017 at 09:43:14
Is our obsession with overrated, overpriced Premier League players to continue?

Bolasie, Schneiderlin, Keane (in last year of contract) and Siggurdsson bought for over £130m. Add in Rooney, Williams and Martina. And almost another £30m on Sissoko. Not that our foreign purchases have been much better I suppose.

The fortune we have spent on such an average team beggars belief.

Jim Potter

Hmm Andy Carroll coming to Goodison, I hope this doesn't mean that big Sam is on his way to save us also, no can't be, he would only join us if Sammy Lee would come to us also. Now that's not going to it!

Pure speculation, absolutely baseless just like the Joe Hart story last year. Carroll may be up for sale, Everton need a striker, no brainer right?

Complete and utter bollocks, if we want a striker from West Ham we should get Hernanadez.
