Dominic King of MailSport has joined reporter Ian Abrahams in tweeting that the Blues have made a move for the 25-year-old who has also been strongly linked with West Ham in the last 48 hours.
Gomes was also the subject of speculation suggesting that he had been offered to Manchester United, perhaps along with Everton target Yerry Mina, as a make-weight in a bid for Paul Pogba.
There are no indications as yet whether the Blues' offer is to take Gomes on loan or on a permanent deal. He is currently out of action with a hamstring injury sustained on Barca's pre-season tour of the United States which might make a temporary move for him more likely.
Gomes, who made his name as a top player at Valencia, has reportedly been keen on a move the Premier League for a while and came close to joining Tottenham last year before the deal fell through.

Superb player. Hes big but is technicallly gifted. GREAT PASSER of the ball, long or short. Great feet. Can shift it quickly. Superb technique.
Now he likes to play further forward. My first thought was what does this mean, is it him and Sigurdsson and Bernard wide with Charlie up top, or we drop Walcott?
But no. This lad is a passer. We drop him deep into the Schneiderlin role. Its not his natural position but hes got the skills.
The only concern is his injury record and hes not really a good tackler. But hes big, he should be able to Handle himself, hes got more bulk on him than Schneiderlin or Gueye. He cost Barcelona £30m or so. Hes a bargain on loan, but get that fee locked into the contract.
Injuries really are a worry, especially as he has done his hamstring in pre-season. Hes only young though and it can settle down.

He was very good when Portugal won the Euros two years back so much so that he got a move to Barcelona on the strength of it, he is a playmaker pretty tall with a lot of classy touches if we get him and he performs like he can it would be a brilliant signing just what we need in the midfield.
10 Posted 08/08/2018 at 18:07:11
He was voted the worst signing of the season by readers of Marca.
Mind you, Luka Modric won that a few years back

Great description of the guy, this one intrigued me: Is his big butt technically gifted?
14 Posted 08/08/2018 at 18:14:38
All these signings gonna take a while to integrate though I dont think we should expect to see them all firing for a few months

Two cautions: first, there's been no hint of this in the Barca media as yet, so hold your enthusiasm. (I hope it's true, but where Barca transfers are concerned I wait to hear it from their side.)
And second, we wouldn't see him for quite a while. He tore that hamstring against Spurs 11 days ago and reports from Spain have him out of action for up to three months. He would then have to get fit. So we might not see him until December.
Nonetheless, I really like this rumor.

Counting the rest we currently have 23
Pickford & Stek, Coleman, Kenny & Martina, Baines & Digne, Jags, Keane, Pennington & Holgate, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Besic, Sigurdsson & McCarthy, Walcott, Richarlison & Bolasie, Tosun, DCL, Niasse & Sandro. Assume Bernard is no 24. Assume Mina is no 25.
So if Zouma and or Gomes come in, then we must loan out a corresponding player from above list or as is traditional, take away locker key and banish to u23s.

And yes, Koeman and Walsh certainly were messers. We're still cleaning up their mess.
23 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:02:56
Of course, there's always a but and we would possibly be closing off a route to first team exposure for some of the younger lads.
Perhaps Mike, it's Zouma or Mina, but looking at the incumbents, Jags, Keane, Pennington & Holgate. Holgate injured with achilles - notoriously hard to shake off, Jags getting on in years, Pennington - uncertain, Keane - uncertain. I would mind getting both, especially if Zouma on loan.
24 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:08:57
Don't mind that at all! Keep 'em Brazilians and Portuguese coming!
25 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:12:05
Huge day tomorrow- Bernard should be done so we need at least one if not two CBs and tie up a few exits. Brands is starting to look the part if he gets this little lot over the line- the difference between him and Walsh is remarkable- both ends of the spectrum.
26 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:14:04
It's a crying shame that Danny Drinkwater is languishing as one of a dozen central midfielders at Chelsea. He would be such a good fit for us and would add some character too.

Digne played with Gueye at Lille. Already mates.
Digne played with Mina at Barca. Also friends.
Charlie played with Mina in Brazil. Already mates.
Apparently Charlie knows Bernard from just being in the Brazilian system.
Gomes played with Mina and Digne at Barca.
It seems like theres some planning rather than leaving four or five strangers to develop a relationship when they dont even speak the same language.
32 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:36:11
But get the sense our recruitment may be becoming much better and maybe, just maybe, in a couple of years we could have an outstanding team?

34 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:42:46
And on a separate note, good coverage on BBC news tonight of Everton in the Community and the mental health support initiative. And good PR on our part to get it out there? And that's not me being cynical. A good, warm feeling.
35 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:43:13
I also think clubs that pay 72M for Allison should not be our barometer of choice.
36 Posted 08/08/2018 at 19:43:56
Appeared to be a special player when at Valencia and maybe Silva can rekindle that.
Personally I am a big Aaron Mooy fan, a quality passer who is well up to speed already with the Prem

Rojo. ManU. --- " "

Coincidence ? If you speak the same language the boss can get his ideas over better.
43 Posted 08/08/2018 at 20:48:01
We need fit players, not treatment table lollygaggers.
44 Posted 08/08/2018 at 20:52:28
Marcel it would seem has style, manner and panache, and if he does get some players (x 2 CBs, dynamic midfield link up play maker by COB, tomorrow night, then we have some hope for this season.
45 Posted 08/08/2018 at 20:57:10
I doff my cap to you mate for such a brill sentence:

If it is the former, how can he pass a medical while injured?
It would make more sense if he is injured, to defer the signing to the January window, I just don't know, there is so much information/disinformation I am totally confused.com.
62 Posted 09/08/2018 at 10:09:38
And yes, he is injured. How badly we will have to wait and see.
63 Posted 09/08/2018 at 10:19:17
64 Posted 09/08/2018 at 10:22:08
Less importantly, he seems to be playing high up the pitch in the video. I thought he was more DM?
65 Posted 09/08/2018 at 10:27:11
I was clinging to the fact that his passing is excellent and he can hit those long passes Silva requires to spring the devastating fast counters.
