Not the most exciting of games,in fact almost as boring as the 0-0 at Villa last season, tho thankfully not quite as bad.Kearton not having a save of note to make in the 90mins and Spink only one, albeit a superb one at that.

I'm trying to write this a few days afterwards and there's not a lot to remember, cept the kid in the seat behind me in the Holte end who kept on calling Kearton a dumb goalie, obvioulsy was there 2 seasons ago!! And kept on shouting come on you Lions!!

The first real shot of a boring first half came from John Ebbrell from about 20 yards following a good move, suprisingly for Ebbrell it was on target but gave Spink an easy catch.

Paul Rideout had a goal disallowed following a foul on a Villa defender for a push. He put the ball away well tho.

Kearton was booked for a foul after 43mins,after racing about 15 yards and claterring Fenton. Apparently the ball was put in the net by Houghton,i didn't see this, but the ref had already blown for the foul. The ref,Roger Gifford had another appalling game i thought.

The second half started with Villa on the attack and loking more danagerous than in the first half. Unsworth made two superb tackles on Wittingham and Richardson to deny them goal-scoring chances. The only real Villa shot i can remember was an attempt by Phil King which ended up about 10 yards wide. Kearton's handling was very good throughout and he looked a lot more confident than in his previous first team appearances. This was his first clean sheet for the club at senior level.

Villa brought Lamptey on but he didn't have much effect, the general standard of Villa's passing was pretty poor to be honest.

At the other end Ferguson got no change out of Eghoiu and Teale did an effective job on Rideout.

Burrows, having his best game for Everton, brought out a reasonable save from Spink following a good move down the left-hand side.

The game which had 0-0 written all over it almost produced a goal twice in the last min.First Rideout met a Hinchcliffe corner with a great header, which Spink somehow managed to tip over. Then from the resulting corner Ferguson had a downward header which bounced over the bar.

In the end,not the best Everton performance but another clean sheet, the sixth in a row, which concidering we were letting goal in at an average of 2 per game earlier in the season is a great improvement.

Overall a solid performance,Unsworth was man of the match, everybody battled hard for a vital point.

I was impressed with the New Holte end, plently of leg room,it'll be superb when the upper tier is opened in two weeks time...
