Overview

At last, a win! A scrappy win at that but a win at last...!

Not a classic game to be honest, the result being more important than the performance. Rush headed over when unmarked early on,and Cottee missed a great chance when clean through,Nev half-saving and Ablett clearing up..

The goal came in the 54th min,a corner was flicked on by Matt Jackson and Ablettscored with a header from about 6 yards. Rideout came on to a good reception and had a header disallowed for offside within moments off coming on.

There were bookings for Watson and Burrows. Burrows also recieved a kick in the head from Rush? which was then followed up by the ball hitting him in the face!

West Ham didn't threaten much until the last few minutes, first Burrows cleared off the line ,then in the last min, Chapman hit the bar when unmarked, and the richochet hit TC and went out for a goal kick.

It was a hard-working performance by the team, with nobody outstanding. Amokachi had another poor game unfortunately and Ferguson and Rideout look a better partnership. Rideout playing very well when he came on and had a couple of good efforts.

Player by player

Southall

Average (which these days is not 8.75).

Jackson

Must have had a blinder - even Alan said he was OK!

Burrows

Still giving his man too much space.

Ablett

Very good. Nice Allan Clarke impression for the goal :-)

Watson

Masterful. Dominating. Played like it was a derby match. 2-3 times snuffed out Cottee with top drawer tackles.

Parkinson

Shaping up nicely. Plays a lot like Horne, but has a nose for a shot and has a shot to go with the nose.

Horne

Working well, but sorry, I'd rather have Samways there. There's more to midfield than tackling and passing square or back to Ablett. :-[

Stuart

Not as bright as Saturday, but still a threat.

Durrant

IMO, his best game for the blues, but still no sign of the latent genius Rangers say he once had.

Amokachi

Ho hum. Needs a rest.

Ferguson

I see nothing he does that Rideout can't do - often better.

Rideout

Unlike the others, he seems to have all day to hold, look, assess and pass accurately.

Limpar

Late appearance.
