One of only two products from the top of the Youth Academy in 2003-04 to be retained and given a professional contract after the Everton management dispensed with the services of a dozen once-promising youngsters deemed surplus to requirements for the long slog ahead... But throughout the 2004-05 season, Daniel Fox only came close to living the dream on one occasion, when he was named as a substitute for Everton's Premiership game against Aston Villa. Needless to say, his services were not called upon, and he returned to the reserves until a loan deal with Scottish 2nd Division side Stranraer from 1 Feb 2005 through the end of the season. And nothing more was heard nor seen of young Foxey until his name appeared on the list of players released by David Moyes at the end of the season. It still took a couple of weeks before Championship side Walsall gave him a two-year deal that allowed the youngster to team up once again with his mate Anthony Gerrard, whose path through the Everton Academy and out of the club had closely paralleled his own. Fox made over 100 appearance for Walsall before he joined the Sky Blues in January 2008, after agreeing personal terms and a passing a medical. Since that time he has progressed well and is now a member of the England Under-21 squad. Updated by Michael Kenrick, June 2009 |
