Lee Molyneux - Left-back | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Spotted by Everton scouts playing for Whiston Juniors at a very early age and signed when he was 10, Lee Molyneux admitted he found the transition into the Blues ranks a struggle in the early days. "I didn't find it easy at first. It was really good, but when I first came I found the things I was being asked to do much harder than I was used to. These days I think I work hard in a game and I am good passer and crosser of the ball. The areas I need to work on most are my tackling and heading," said Lee in 2005. After turning 17, Lee Molyneux signed his first professional contract with Everton in March 2006 that runs through June 2008. The left-back joined the Everton's Youth Academy as a youngster and was playing for their Under-18 side when he was just 16 years old. He also became a regular in the England youth setup, progressing from the Under-16 side into the Under-17s this season. Lee continued his progress at Everton too, breaking into the Reserves in November 2005 after spending some time on the bench, and showing that he has all the qualities to progress to a higher level. "I'm chuffed to bits. Things have been going pretty well for me and I feel like I am improving a lot this season. I am really enjoying my football at Everton, I love the training and the coaches and everyone here have been really good to me. "The reserves is a big step up from the youth team but I am feeling comfortable in the side now and finding it easier to express myself more. "Hopefully I can continue to improve if I keep working hard. My long-term goal has to be to challenge for a first-team place." A back injury ruled Molyneux out for much of the 2007-08 campaign and the youngster had been on a month-by-month contract at Goodison Park since his first contract expired in June 2008. He featured for the Reserves during 2008-09 and scored a memorable free-kick in a 3-2 win over Liverpool Reserves in October, before being deemed surplus to requirements; he was transferred to Southampton on 1 January 2009 without ever appearing in a senior game for Everton. |
