The Gunners maintained their 100% record but had to dig deep to beat
the plucky bottom of the table team. American import Jenna Szyluk,
in only her third game for Everton, put the visitors into a third-minute
lead. And after goals by Pauline McDonald and Angela Banks had given
Arsenal the advantage, Szyluk scored again to take the sides into
half-time on level terms.
Everton continued battling as they looked for their first victory of
the season, but a 58th minute goal by England Under-19 striker Ellen Maggs
earned the points for the home side. Arsenal are now four points
behind Fulham with two games in hand while Everton are stuck firmly in
bottom place with just one point from seven matches.
