Dan Bramall moved to the Toffees from Chesterfield’s academy aged 14 and if he progresses, he will generate a five-figure sum for the Spireites. The youngster joined Everton’s academy in 2013 before signing scholarship forms in July 2015.
One commentator on the FA Youth Cup tie at Preston noted the 18-year-old to be extremely skillful and possess that rare dribbling ability, coupled with a complete lack of fear. He’s nowhere near the finished article, but the stepovers and lightning acceleration were raw and exciting. Even when things didn’t work out or he was dispossessed he, perhaps even more admirably, chased back with tenacity and hunger.
Daniel signed his first professional contract with Everton in June 2017, giving him a one-year deal and the opportunity to break into the Under-23s. As a regular for Kevin Sheedy’s Under-18s in the 2016-17 season he had impressed in his midfield role.
“As soon as I signed for Everton four or five years ago this was what I was working for – a pro deal,” the delighted youngster told evertonfc.com. “Now I’ve got it and signed it, it’s just a dream come true.
“Last season, I was just trying to impress people as much as I could and, thankfully, I did enough. My aim now is to get more goals, more assists and hopefully some starts for the Under-23s.
“I saw what the Under-23s did last season [in winning the PL2] and I want to be a part of that, in the middle of it all, because it looked brilliant to win it and I’d want to do the same.
“It is a good Club to be at if you want to move up to the first team one day because you see lads getting great opportunities and also the coaches and staff let you express yourself and be yourself when you’re out on the pitch.”
Bramall says he is already focused on making a big impression in pre-season. “I’ve signed my first pro deal now but I think I’ll celebrate by jogging!” he added. “I need to get ready for pre-season because I’ve heard it’s really tough. I need to crack on in pre-season and make an impression, so I need to be prepared and if it’s hard I need to put up with it and just keep going and going.”
He didn't get to play much for the Under-23s, however; only 2 starts and 4 sub appearances. But it was considered enough for the club to offer him another year as a professional in July 2018. Strangely, he played even less for the Under-23s the next season, racking up just one single game in the Premier League Cup against Sheffield United.
Bramall was released in June 2019.
