Gary Rowett

Gary Rowett signed professional forms and made his debut for Cambridge United in the 1991-1992 season having come through the excellent youth setup at the Abbey Stadium. His first appearance was memorable as he scored the winner at Millwall having come on as a second half substitute and he established himself as a useful utility player over the remainder of that season as the club enjoyed its best-ever finish in the old second division.

The 1992-1993 season saw Rowett become a regular first team member, albeit one who seemed to lack positional discipline and after one more campaign at the Abbey Stadium, he was picked up by new Everton manager, Mike Walker.

He played no part in the Blues' triumphant FA Cup in 1994-95 and made just four senior appearances in his time at the club before moving out on loan to Blackpool and then securing a permanent transfer to Derby County where he would enjoy the longest spell of first-team football of his career.

After two years at Burton Albion, he hung up his boots in 2007 and eventually moved into management at the Midlands club. He went on to manage Birmingham, Derby, Stoke and Millwall.
