Sure enough, on 8 May 2006 when the axe fell, Laurence Wilson was one of six youngsters who had been named to the senior squad, but had failed to make any appearances for the first team — to be released. The young fullback cum winger had been on loan with Mansfield Town since January and had stated that, if he had no future with the Toffees, then he would like to sign for the Stags.
Wilson impressed in his 15 games for the Stags, scoring once. The youngster can play either on the wing or at full back. But he eventually joined Chester City, who finished one place below Mansfield in League Two.
