Alex Young's Testimonial

All proceeds go to the BlueBlood Foundation

In the tradition of great Everton number Nines, Alex Young was not of the powerful ilk of Dean, Lawton, Hickson or Sharp.  He glided past opponents as if on air, moving with deceptive grace and eloquence that made him mesmerising to watch and, presumably, to play against!

Nicknamed the "Golden Vision" on the basis of those unmatched talents, Young is one of the most popular players to ever have worn the Blue jersey and one of the greatest English football has ever seen.  He was an integral part of Harry Catterick's legendary team that swept to the 1963 Championship and won the famous 1966 FA Cup Final.

On Monday, 13th August, Everton are staging a testimonial for Alex Young against Spanish side Espanyol, with the proceeds going to Alex and the BlueBlood Foundation, a charitable organisation that provides financial and medical assistance to those former Everton players to whom we owe so much for building the club's status as one of the biggest and most successful clubs in England.

Alex Young is a patron of the Foundation and you, the Everton fans, can do your part to honour both him and the legends of old whom he represents by going to the Espanyol game at Goodison Park this month.

It should be a night out to remember, a chance to take your kids to see The Vision and all those heroes who were wearing the Royal Blue when it actually meant something.  Not only that, you will be contributing to the long-overdue retirement of a true Everton legend - Alex Young still works every day and it is hoped that the estimated £100,000 payday from the Espanyol testimonial will enable him to take a well-earned rest!

Again, the match is on Monday 13th August, 2001. Kick off is at 7:30pm.  Please contact Everton Football Club's usual ticket-buying channels for information on how to purchase tickets.  Over 100 former players are expected to be in attendance, many of whom have benefitted from the BlueBlood Foundation, and some of them will get to play on the hallowed turf once more in a special 15-minute each-way pre-game – Blues v Yellows.

If you would like to make a contribution to the Everton Former Players' Foundation, you can send a cheque (in any currency) made out to ‘Former Players Association’ and posted to:
