Match Summary
Did we even get a week's break? No, the football rollercoaster is ready to rock and roll once more, with the confusing pleasures of pre-season friendlies to kick things off. David Moyes performs the seemingly impossible today, with Everton being in two places at once to set up a nice trick question for those Pub Quizzes: "Where was Everton's first pre-season friendly of 2006 played?" Simultaneous 3 pm kick-offs in Bury and Port Vale saw the full and reserves team squads evenly split to provide plenty of opportunity for some real match training... unless you are cut down with a virus. That's what's happened to Joleon Lescott, who will not be playing today. Apart from him and the three World Cup players (Valente, Cahill & Howard), the only others missing were Hibbert, Pistone and Vaughan, who are all working on recovery from injury. David Moyes was watching at Vale Park, which may have contributed to initial nerves as there were no goals in the first half but Jamie McFadden finally got the ball in the net on 55 mins. Kevin Kilbane added a second after 64 mins. Michael Kenrick
